My Trip to Check Out the Brownwood Park Tennis Courts
So, I’d been meaning to find a decent spot to hit some tennis balls, nothing serious, just get outside and move a bit. Heard folks mention Brownwood Park now and then, figured I’d finally go see the courts for myself.
Packed my old racket, found some slightly flat tennis balls, and headed over there one afternoon. Wasn’t too sure what to expect, honestly. Parking was okay, found a spot near the entrance without too much trouble. The park itself looked nice enough, pretty green, families around.

Walked over towards where I thought the courts would be. Found them tucked away a little bit. First thing I noticed: there were a couple of courts, looked like standard hard courts. The surface seemed alright, not brand new, but definitely playable. Saw some cracks here and there, but nothing major that looked like it would trip you up too badly.
The Courts Themselves
Here’s a quick rundown of what I saw:
- Two courts, side-by-side.
- Standard green hard court surface.
- Fencing all around was in decent shape, kept the balls mostly contained.
- Nets looked okay, maybe a little saggy in the middle on one, but functional.
- There were some benches outside the courts, which is always nice.
They weren’t empty, which I guess is a good sign? A couple of guys were playing a pretty serious match on one court, and a family was just hitting back and forth casually on the other. Looked like a typical neighborhood park court setup. No fancy stuff, just the basics.
Getting Some Playtime (or Trying To)
I hung around for a bit, waiting to see if a court would free up. The family finished up after about 20 minutes, so I managed to hop onto their court. Just wanted to practice some serves and hit against the backboard (well, the fence, really, since there wasn’t a proper practice wall).
Spent about 45 minutes just knocking the ball around. It felt good just to swing the racket. The surface played true enough, ball bounced predictably. The other guys were still going at it hard on the next court over. Pretty standard park tennis scene, really. People coming and going.
Overall, it was a successful little outing. The Brownwood Park courts are pretty much what you’d expect: basic, functional public courts. Nothing fancy, but they get the job done if you just want to play some tennis. It wasn’t too crowded when I went, but I could see them getting busy during peak times. Definitely worth checking out if you’re in the area and looking for a free place to play. I’ll probably head back again sometime soon.
