Alright, let’s talk about this basketball stuff, you know, the ladies and the fellas playing with the orange ball. I heard some things, seen some things on the TV, and it got me thinking.
This A’ja Wilson, she’s a real firecracker, this girl. Plays for the Las Vegas Aces, they say. Good team, I guess. Anyways, she’s been yappin’ about how the women ain’t gettin’ paid as much as the men. And you know what? She’s right! It ain’t fair, not one bit.

They call it a “pay gap,” these fancy folks. Sounds like somethin’ you’d find in a broken fence, but it means the girls ain’t gettin’ the same dough as the boys. Now, I ain’t no scholar, but even I can see that’s wrong. These girls, they runnin’ and jumpin’ and throwin’ that ball just as hard, maybe even harder, than the fellas.
I heard tell the girls, the new ones, they only get somethin’ like 60,000 dollars a year to start. That ain’t hay, mind you, but the fellas, they startin’ way higher. And the best of the best ladies, they might get up to 240,000 or so. Sounds like a lot, huh? But them NBA boys, they makin’ millions! Millions, I tell ya! It’s like comparing a hill of beans to a whole darn farm.
- The girls gotta play overseas in the off-season just to make ends meet. That ain’t right. They should be restin’ up, gettin’ ready for the next season, not traipsin’ around the world just to put food on the table.
- And get this, they say the WNBA, that’s the ladies’ league, ain’t makin’ money. Losin’ money, they say. Millions every year. But how can that be? Them games are on TV now, and people are watchin’. I watch ’em sometimes, when my soaps ain’t on. More and more folks are goin’ to the games too, cheerin’ for the girls.
This A’ja girl, and some others, they ain’t keepin’ quiet about it. Good for them! They speakin’ up, makin’ a fuss. They even got a new deal a few years back, in 2020 they say. Got ’em a little more money, over a hundred thousand on average. But it ain’t enough, not by a long shot.
Things are lookin’ up though, they say. More people watchin’, more people cheerin’, more money comin’ in. This Caitlin Clark girl, she’s new, and she’s drawin’ a crowd. People wanna see her play. That’s good, real good. Maybe that’ll help close that gap thingy.
It ain’t just basketball, you know. It’s everywhere. Women workin’ just as hard as men, but gettin’ paid less. It’s a darn shame, it is. It’s like they think we ain’t worth as much. But we are! We are strong, we are smart, and we can do anything them fellas can do, maybe even better sometimes!
A’ja Wilson, she’s a strong one, I tell ya. She went to some fancy party in New York City, got all dressed up, and she’s still talkin’ about the pay. Good for her! She’s using her voice, makin’ people listen. And she’s right, things gotta change. It’s about fairness, plain and simple.
So, I’m rootin’ for these girls, I am. I hope they get every penny they deserve. They work hard, they play hard, and they should get paid the same as them NBA fellas. It’s about time this “pay gap” gets filled in, and the playing field gets leveled. Then maybe, just maybe, things will be fair and square.
And you know what else? This ain’t just about basketball. It’s about all the women, everywhere. They deserve to be treated fair, paid fair, and respected for the work they do. It’s a long road, I know, but these ladies are tough. They’ll keep fightin’, and I’ll keep cheerin’ ’em on. You go, girls! Show ’em what you’re made of!
This whole thing, it just ain’t right. It’s like they’re playin’ the same game, but with different rules. And that ain’t fair, no matter how you slice it. So, I say, let’s make some noise, let’s support these ladies, and let’s make sure they get what they deserve. It’s about time.
