Okay, so I’ve been grinding away at MLB The Show lately, and I wanted to share my quest to figure out who the absolute best players are. It’s not as straightforward as you might think!
My Initial Dive
First, I just jumped into Diamond Dynasty. That’s where the real competition is, right? I figured I’d just look at the overall ratings and grab the highest-rated dudes. I snagged a few 99 overall players, thinking I was set.

- I quickly put together a lineup of all the top-rated players in each position, not really paying attention to anything besides their overall rating.
- Then, got absolutely destroyed in a few online games.
Digging a Little Deeper
After getting smacked around,I figured there must be more to it. Obviously just high rated players did not work.
- I started to pay way more attention to individual attributes. Like, sure, a guy might be a 99 overall, but what’s his contact vs. lefties? What’s his fielding like?
- Then I started to experiment with different player combinations.
Things Got Better
I started to learn what attributes were important to my playstyle, I started to notice improvements.
- I won more games!
- Actually put together a good team.
The Final Result
So, after all that, I can confidently say that….it’s complicated. There isn’t a single “best” player. It all really does depend on your style and how you build your team.
But, by really digging into those attributes, experimenting with lineups, and finding what worked for me, I managed to build a team that I’m pretty happy with. And that’s probably the biggest takeaway: it’s about the process, not just grabbing the biggest numbers you can find.
