So, the name Dayon Hayes popped up recently, connected to the NFL draft stuff. Got me thinking, you know? Had to check it out myself.
First thing I did was just search his name, Dayon Hayes, and ‘NFL draft’. Pretty standard stuff. Wanted to see what the general talk was, where he was coming from.

Found out pretty quick he’s a defensive lineman, played his college ball at Pitt. Okay, cool. Seen some Pitt guys make the league before. So I started digging a bit more into his time there. Looked for stats, any standout games people were talking about.
Trying to figure out the buzz
Tried to see where folks thought he might land in the draft. You know how it is, tons of mock drafts, predictions flying around everywhere. Honestly, didn’t see his name super high up on most lists I came across. Seemed like he was more in that later rounds or maybe even undrafted free agent territory, based on what I was finding.
It wasn’t like he was getting zero attention, just wasn’t the kind of guy dominating the headlines leading up to the draft. More of a solid player, maybe hoping for a shot.
Draft Day and After
So, watched the draft unfold, kept an eye out. His name didn’t get called. That happens, right? A lot of good college players don’t hear their name during those three days. It’s tough.
But then, checked again a little later, after the main draft finished. That’s when all the undrafted guys start signing deals. Saw that Hayes did end up getting a shot. Landed with a team as an undrafted free agent. Can’t recall which team off the top of my head right now, gotta be honest, my memory ain’t what it used to be.
What I kinda took away from it:
- Finding info isn’t always easy, gotta dig sometimes.
- Not getting drafted isn’t the end of the road. Plenty of guys make it as UDFAs.
- It’s interesting following these guys’ paths, even if they aren’t the big stars.
Yeah, just thought I’d share how I looked into that Dayon Hayes situation. It’s always a process, trying to piece together the story from what you can find online. Pretty straightforward this time, but still takes a little effort.
