Okay, so today I wanted to look back at the 2008 WNBA season. I’ve always been a huge fan, and 2008 was a pretty interesting year. I remember bits and pieces, but I wanted to see the full picture, you know, the actual standings.
Digging for the Data
First things first, I needed to find the information. I fired up my trusty old computer and started searching. It took a bit of digging, bouncing around a few different websites, before I found a reliable source with the complete standings.

Organizing My Thoughts
Once I found the data, I didn’t want to just stare at a webpage. I wanted it organized in a way that made sense to me. So, I copied the standings into a simple spreadsheet. I like having things in a spreadsheet because I can sort them, and it just feels cleaner, visually.
Reviewing the Standings
With everything neatly organized, I started going through the standings. Here’s what my sheet looked like
- Eastern Conference
- Detroit Shock: 22-12
- Connecticut Sun: 21-13
- New York Liberty: 19-15
- Indiana Fever: 17-17
- Chicago Sky:12-22
- Atlanta Dream: 4-30
- Washington Mystics:10-24
- Western Conference
- San Antonio Silver Stars: 24-10
- Seattle Storm: 22-12
- Los Angeles Sparks: 20-14
- Sacramento Monarchs: 18-16
- Houston Comets: 17-17
- Phoenix Mercury: 16-18
- Minnesota Lynx: 16-18
It was cool to see how dominant some teams were, and how much others struggled. It brought back a lot of memories of watching games that year.
Reflections
Taking this little trip down memory lane was awesome. It reminded me why I love the WNBA so much, and it was fun to organize the information in a way that was personally satisfying. Sometimes, it’s the simple things, like revisiting old sports stats, that can be really enjoyable. I’ll probably do this again for other seasons!
