So, the other day I was playing MLB The Show, and I kept seeing these things called “program stars.” I was like, what the heck are these? I mean, I’m playing Road to the Show, just trying to make my way to the big leagues, you know? And these stars kept popping up after I’d complete some challenge or something.
At first, I ignored them. I was focused on hitting dingers and striking guys out, typical baseball stuff. But then I noticed this section on my player profile. It had “tasks” and “missions,” and this thing called a “program.” It was all pretty confusing, honestly.

I started digging around the menus. There’s this “Programs” tab on the main menu, which I hadn’t really paid attention to before. Turns out, that’s where all this stuff comes together. I clicked on it, and boom, there it was. All these rewards you can unlock, and the currency? Those darn program stars!
It finally clicked. These program stars aren’t just some random thing. They’re actually pretty important. Every time I did well in a game, like getting a bunch of hits or striking out the side, I’d earn these stars. Then, I could use them to unlock different rewards in the Programs section.
The better I played, the more stars I got. And the more stars I had, the better the rewards I could unlock. It’s like a whole system built into the game to make you a better player. It’s kinda genius, really. They’re motivating you to improve by dangling these rewards in front of you.
Here’s what I figured out:
- You earn program stars by doing well in games and completing challenges.
- You spend those stars in the Programs tab to get rewards.
- It’s all about improving your player and getting cool stuff.
Oh, and I also found out some other things in the player menu, next to your player, these little icons, well, I found out what they mean. Like, if you see sideways arrows next to your player, it means he’s a two-way player. If there’s a snowflake, it means your player’s on a cold streak. If you see a fire icon, it means your player’s hot, on a roll! A red upward arrow means you’re a top 50 prospect, and a red star means you made it to the AL All-Star team. Pretty cool, right?
So yeah, that’s my little adventure with program stars in MLB The Show. It took me a bit to figure it all out, but now that I get it, it makes the game even more fun. Now I’m not just playing the games, I’m chasing those stars!
