Alright, so you wanna know how much them NFL fellas, the scoutin’ guys, you know, the ones lookin’ at the young’uns playin’ ball, how much they make, huh? Well, it ain’t no simple thing, like countin’ eggs in the mornin’. It’s all over the place, I tell ya.
Some folks say these scoutin’ guys, they start around $57,000 a year. That’s a good chunk of change, ‘specially if you ain’t used to city livin’ prices. But then you hear other things, like some only get about $40,050 a year on average. That’s a big difference, ain’t it? Like the difference between a plump chicken and a skinny one.

Now, there’s them fancy websites, like that Glassdoor thing, they say the average is way more, like $95,464 a year. And some of them top dogs, the real experienced fellas, they can rake in up to $200,000! Can you believe that? That’s enough to buy a whole lotta cows!
- But then you got the government fellas, the Bureau of Labor Statistics, they say it’s lower, somewhere between $20,140 and $70,050, with the average ’round $40,000. See? All over the place. Makes your head spin like a whirligig.
- And some other folks say most of ’em, they get between $45,000 and $95,000 a year. That sounds ’bout right, I guess. Depends on how long they been doin’ it, and which team they work for, I reckon.
- And if you look at it by the hour, some of them young fellas just startin’ out, they might only get around $13.40 an hour. That ain’t much, is it? Not enough to buy a good pair of workin’ boots.
Then you got them fancy fellas overseas, in England and such, they get paid in them pounds, not dollars. Some of them get ’round £18,000 to £30,000 a year. And the chief scouts, the big bosses, they can get between £30,000 and £60,000. It’s all different, ya see? Like tryin’ to catch a greased pig, hard to get a hold of.
Now, these scoutin’ fellas, they gotta go to this big shindig, the NFL Scouting Combine, they call it. It’s like a big ol’ county fair, but instead of pigs and cows, they got young football players runnin’ around. The scouts, they look ’em up and down, check their muscles, make sure they ain’t got no broken bones. It’s a big deal, this combine thing.
You might think these NFL teams got money to burn, but seems they don’t spend that much on scoutin’. Some folks say a team might only spend like $3 million a year on the whole scoutin’ department. Can you imagine? One of them fancy football players, they can make that much money in just a few games! Kinda makes you wonder, don’t it?
And some of these scouts, they don’t even work for the team straight up. They work on commission, like sellin’ Tupperware or somethin’. They find a good player, they get a cut. That’s how some of them do it, I hear. It’s a hustlin’ game, this scoutin’ business.
So, long story short, how much they make? Well, it depends. It’s like askin’ how big a fish is. Some are small, some are big, and some are just right. But if I had to guess, I’d say most of them make somewhere between $40,000 and $95,000 a year. That’s a decent livin’, I reckon, but it ain’t gonna make you rich like them quarterbacks.
Anyway, that’s what I hear ‘bout them NFL scouts and their pay. It ain’t easy work, travelin’ all over, lookin’ at them young fellas playin’ ball. But somebody’s gotta do it, right?
