Alright, let’s talk about this football stuff, the UNLV Rebels, you know? Heard they got some kinda “depth chart.” Sounds fancy, but I reckon it just means who’s playin’ and who’s sittin’ on the bench. Like when we used to pick teams for kickball back in the day, only with more helmets and pads, I guess.
So, this UNLV football depth chart for 2024-25, it’s like a list, see? They got all them fellas lined up, offense, defense, the whole shebang. Quarterbacks, them fellas who throw the ball, running backs, the ones who run with it, and wide receivers, the ones who catch it. Then you got the big fellas on the lines, pushin’ and shovin’ each other. And don’t forget them linebackers, always in the middle of things, thumpin’ and bumpin’.
- Offense: Quarterback, Running Back, Wide Receiver, Tight Ends, Offensive Line. That’s a whole lotta folks just tryin’ to get that ball down the field. Reminds me of tryin’ to chase a chicken in the yard, all that scramblin’ and dodgin’.
- Defense: Defensive Line, Linebackers, Defensive Backs. These fellas, they tryin’ to stop the other team from scorin’. Like tryin’ to keep the grandkids from gettin’ into the cookie jar, gotta be quick and strong.
Now, they got starters and backups. Starters, them’s the main guys, the ones who get to play most of the time. Backups, they waitin’ on the sidelines, hopin’ for a chance to get in the game. It’s like havin’ extra help in the kitchen, you know? Sometimes you need ’em, sometimes you don’t.
This UNLV Rebels roster, it’s got a whole bunch of names. Some of ’em I can’t even pronounce, sound like somethin’ from a foreign land. But they all there, wearin’ them helmets and jerseys, representin’ UNLV. I heard they even got a fella named Ahboah, plays offensive tackle. Big ol’ boy, I bet. And Allen, playin’ defensive back, gotta be quick on his feet.
They say this team, the Rebels, they doin’ pretty good this year. Beat San Diego, beat Utah Tech. Scorin’ a whole bunch of points. 72-14, that’s a whoppin’! Reminds me of that time we had that big watermelon harvest, so many we didn’t know what to do with ’em all. They even ranked, number 23 in somethin’ called the Coaches Poll. Highest they ever been, they say. Well, good for them, I say. Work hard, play hard, that’s what I always told my kids.
And this University of Nevada, Las Vegas, that’s where they play. Big school, lots of students. They got all kinds of sports, baseball, basketball, even swimmin’ and divin’. But football, that’s the one everybody talks about. It’s like the main course at a big dinner, everythin’ else is just the sides.
They call ’em the Rebels, you know? Said it’s somethin’ about not conformin’, goin’ against the grain. Well, I can understand that. Always been a bit of a rebel myself, never did like bein’ told what to do. But these Rebels, they playin’ as a team, workin’ together. That’s important, see? Can’t win nothin’ if you ain’t workin’ together.
So, this UNLV football depth chart, it’s just a way of keepin’ track of who’s who. Who’s playin’, who’s waitin’, who’s doin’ what. It’s important for the coaches, I guess, so they know who to put in the game. But for me, I just like watchin’ ’em play. Runnin’ and jumpin’ and throwin’ that ball around. It’s entertainin’, you know? And that’s all that really matters, ain’t it?
This NextGen thing, they say it’s got the depth chart, position groups, player stacks, and transfers. All this sounds mighty complicated. Sounds like a whole lot of information, more than an old woman like me needs to know. But for them folks who follow this football real close, I guess it’s important.
Anyway, that’s what I know about this UNLV football stuff. Ain’t much, but it’s somethin’. They got a team, they got a depth chart, and they playin’ some good football. And that’s all a body needs to know, right? Now, if you’ll excuse me, I gotta go check on them biscuits in the oven. Don’t want ’em to burn.
