Alright, so I’ve been messing around with this idea for a while now and I finally got something to show for it. It’s all about those tunes that get blasted in stadiums right as the football teams make their grand entrance. I’m talking about the “football walk out songs” that set the mood before the game even starts. I mean we all get excited about it when we are watching a football match.
First off, I started by just watching a ton of football matches. Not just any matches, but the big ones, you know? Like, we’re talking Premier League, Champions League, the whole shebang. I wanted to see what kind of music these teams were using to pump themselves up. I grabbed my notebook and started jotting down every song I could identify as teams walked out. It was a bit of a mess at first, trying to catch the song names over the roar of the crowd and the commentators, but I got the hang of it.
Then, I started digging around online. I hit up all sorts of websites, forums, and even some of those sports news sites to see what others were saying about these walk out songs. I found a bunch of discussions, some lists, and even a few articles breaking down the most popular or iconic ones. It seemed like everyone had their favorites, from old-school classics to the latest chart-toppers.
So, I began to make a list. I divided it up by league, by team, and even tried to categorize them by the vibe they gave off. Were they high-energy, aggressive, or more of that inspirational, epic feel? It took a while, but I ended up with a pretty solid list.
Next up, I wanted to see if there were any patterns. Was there a certain genre that was more popular? Were the top teams all using the same kind of music? I used some basic spreadsheet action to sort and analyze the data. Nothing too fancy, just enough to get a sense of what was going on.
After that, I tried to get into the why. Why were these songs chosen? Was it the lyrics, the beat, the history? I read up on some of the stories behind the songs, like how certain songs became associated with specific teams or players. I found some interesting stories like some songs are playing for hype team.
I even reached out to some folks online, on forums and stuff, to get their take on it. I asked them about their favorite walk out songs, why they liked them, and what they thought made a good one. Got a bunch of different perspectives that way, which was pretty cool.
Finally, I put everything together. I’ve got this big ol’ document now, filled with song titles, notes on when and where they’re played, some analysis on trends, and even some personal opinions thrown in there for good measure. For example, I found that many teams will play songs like “Eye of the Tiger” or a modern hit like “Can’t Hold Us”. Also I found that some teams will play their own songs like Liverpool.
It’s still a work in progress, and there are many songs and clubs that I haven’t searched for, but I’m pretty stoked about what I’ve got so far. It’s been a fun little project, and it’s definitely made me pay more attention to the music next time I’m watching a match. I’m going to share them with you guys maybe later, I need to perfect them. Hope you guys find it interesting!
