Okay, so yesterday I was chilling, watching some NFL highlights, and this random thought popped into my head: “who is the tallest WR in the NFL?” I mean, you see these guys making crazy catches, and I was just curious about the height factor. So, naturally, I went straight to Google.
First thing I did was type in “tallest wide receiver NFL”. A bunch of articles and forum posts came up. I skimmed through a few, and the name “Harold Carmichael” kept popping up. Apparently, this dude was a beast back in the 70s.

Some sites claimed Harold Carmichael was like 6 foot 8 inches!
That’s insane for a wide receiver! I dug a little deeper, trying to confirm this giant’s height. Found some old news clippings and player profiles. It seemed pretty legit. He was a legit tall dude.
But then I started thinking, “Okay, that’s the history of the NFL, but what about now?” So, I adjusted my search to “tallest active wide receiver NFL”.
- I scrolled past a bunch of articles about the highest-paid WRs (Justin Jefferson is raking it in, by the way – good for him!).
- Then I saw something about a guy named Skipper.
Apparently, this Skipper guy is listed as 6 foot 9 inches!
That sounds huge! Then a reality check hit me. I did some more digging and learned that Skipper is actually an offensive tackle. I guess I was too quick to believe what I read online.
It became a proper scavenger hunt at this point. After some serious searching on the official NFL rosters and different sports sites, I found that most sources list several wide receivers in the 6’5″ – 6’6″ range. There did not seem to be an active receiver that was taller.
Conclusion?
Finding the absolute tallest active WR in the NFL is actually trickier than you’d think! There are a lot of guys around that height, and it probably changes every season as players come and go.
So, while I didn’t get a definitive answer, I learned a bit about NFL history and the challenges of online research. It also gave me something to do on a lazy afternoon. Plus, now I can sound somewhat knowledgeable the next time I’m watching a game with my buddies. Not bad for a random Google search, right?
