Okay, so I’ve been wanting to work on my striking at home, but I don’t always have a partner to hold pads. I looked into getting a heavy bag, but then I stumbled upon these MMA boxing dummies. They looked pretty cool, and I figured it would be a good way to practice my punches, kicks, and maybe even some takedowns. So, I decided to get one and try it out.
Finding the Right Dummy
First, I searched online for different types of these dummies. There are a bunch, some are just torsos, some have arms, and some are full-body things you can throw around. I went with a full-body one because, why not? I wanted to be able to practice everything.

Setting It Up
When the box arrived it was heavier than I am, I carried it inside and got everything unpacked. And that’s when the fun starts. It doesn’t come with any fillers, so, I choosed old clothes, towels, and rags, anything soft, really. It took a while, I stuffed the *’s kind of like making a giant, human-shaped pillow. Make sure put enough fillers, or it’ll be too floppy.
The First Workout
Once it was all set up, I started with some basic punches. Jabs, crosses, hooks – the usual stuff. It felt pretty good! The dummy provided enough resistance to feel like I was hitting something, but it wasn’t so hard that it hurt my hands. Then, I moved on to kicks. Roundhouse kicks to the body and legs felt awesome. The dummy absorbed the impact well, and I could really feel the power in my strikes.
Mixing It Up
After a few rounds of just punches and kicks, I decided to get creative. I tried some elbow strikes, which felt surprisingly natural. Then, I worked on some takedown drills. I practiced shooting in, grabbing the dummy, and lifting it up. It’s not the same as working with a live person, of course, but it’s a decent way to get the motion down. The dummy got dirty, because I did all of that outdoor.
My Thoughts So Far
- It’s a good workout. I was definitely sweating after a few rounds.
- It’s fun! It’s kind of satisfying to just wail on something.
- It’s not a replacement for a real training partner. But it’s a great way to practice on my own.
- It is hard to clean.I think I need a cover for it.
Overall, I’m pretty happy with it. I think it’ll be a great addition to my home workouts.I just need to put something on it.
