Okay, so I’ve been wanting to set up a golf simulator at home for a while. The big problem? I’m a righty, but my best buddy and my son are both lefties. Finding a simulator that works well for both of us has been a real pain. I mean, you don’t want to spend all that money and then have half the people unable to use it properly, right?
My Search Begins
I started by, you know, just Googling around. “Best golf simulator for left and right handed players” – that sort of thing. I read a bunch of articles and forum posts. It seemed like the biggest issue was getting the sensor placement right so it could accurately track shots from both sides. Some systems were clearly designed with righties in mind, and lefties were kind of an afterthought.

Digging Deeper
I started looking at specific brands and models. I wanted something that was, first and foremost, accurate. I didn’t want to be smashing balls and having the simulator tell me I sliced it into the woods when I know I hit it straight. Then there was the space issue. I don’t have a massive dedicated room, so something that could fit in my garage without taking over the whole space was important. And, obviously, the whole lefty/righty thing.
I focused on launch monitors instead of full enclosure systems, firstly for space saving. There were several kinds of launch monitors such as radar-based and camera-based.
Testing Things Out (As Much as Possible)
Honestly, it’s tough to “test” these things without actually buying them. It seemed easy to setup for both handedness players. I watched a few videos of camera-based ones. For these kind of launch monitors, I just needed to place it on the floor. I finally chose the camera-based system. I bought it online.
Setting It Up
The setup process was pretty straightforward. Since I chose the camera-based launch monitors, I just followed the simple instructions. The software was a little clunky to get used to, had to spend a bit time there.
The Moment of Truth
Once everything was set up, it was time to actually try it out. I grabbed a club and took a few swings. The simulator tracked my shots pretty darn well! Then, I had my son (the lefty) give it a go. We moved the monitor to the other side, made a few quick adjustments in the software, and…it worked! He was able to get accurate readings too.
The Verdict (So Far)
I’m pretty happy with my purchase. I need to do more detailed settings with software. The fact that it works equally well for both righties and lefties is a huge win. It’s definitely made my practice sessions more fun, and it’s great to be able to play a round with my buddy and my son without having to worry about the simulator only working for one of us. It is a good buy.
