Well, let me tell ya ’bout this here place, the Links at Fox Meadows, they call it. It’s a golf course, ya know, a big ol’ place with lots of grass.
What is the Links at Fox Meadows?
It ain’t just any small patch of land, no sir. They say it’s 160 acres, that’s a whole lotta land if ya ask me. Big enough for 18 holes they say, for playin’ that golf game. I don’t know much about golf, but I hear it’s a game where ya hit a little ball with a stick. Sounds kinda silly, but folks seem to like it.
This place, the Links at Fox Meadows, it’s in Memphis. Heard tell it’s a public place, so anyone can go there and play, I reckon. That’s nice, ain’t it? Not like some of them fancy places where only rich folks can go.
What’s it like at the golf course?

They got this clubhouse there too. I guess that’s where ya go to sit and rest after all that walkin’ and hittin’ balls. And they got a shop, a golf shop they call it, where ya can buy all them sticks and balls, I suppose. And if ya don’t know how to play, they even give lessons. Imagine that! Teachin’ grown folks how to hit a ball with a stick!
- 18-hole golf course
- Clubhouse
- Golf shop
- Lessons available
- Leagues and tournament packages
They even got these things called leagues and tournaments. Sounds like a lot of fuss to me, but folks get all excited about it. Guess it’s like them county fairs we used to have, where folks compete to see who’s the best at this or that.
Now, I heard some folks sayin’ this course is a long one, the longest in Memphis, they say. And ya gotta be accurate, they say, can’t just be swingin’ that stick all willy-nilly. Gotta aim and hit it just right. Sounds hard to me, I tell ya.
How much does it cost?
And the price? Well, I heard someone sayin’ it was $38 to play all 18 holes, and that included a cart. A cart! Imagine that, ridin’ around in a little car just to play a game. Folks these days, I tell ya. But they say it’s a good deal, a good value, they say.

Playing the course
Some fella was tellin’ me about the course, how it’s got some tricky spots, where ya gotta hit the ball just so, or it’ll go off into the weeds. He called ‘em “tee shots” I think. And he said ya could play the whole 18 holes in about three hours. That’s a long time to be walkin’ around in the sun, if ya ask me. But I guess if you’re havin’ fun, ya don’t notice the time.
Finding your way around
They even got these maps, fancy maps that show ya each hole, like a bird’s eye view, they call it. And they got this GPS thing, tells ya how far ya gotta hit the ball. Technology these days, it’s somethin’ else, I tell ya.
What is a links course?

Now, this here course, they call it a “links” course. I asked around and someone told me that “links” courses are usually by the sea, where the wind and rain shape the land. This one ain’t by the sea, though, bein’ in Memphis and all. But I guess it’s still kinda like them links courses, with the way the land is all bumpy and rollin’. They say most of them real links courses are over in Scotland and Ireland, places like that. But this one here in Memphis, it’s good enough for folks around here, I reckon.
So, that’s about all I know about this Links at Fox Meadows place. Sounds like a nice enough spot, if you’re into hittin’ little balls with sticks. Me? I’d rather be sittin’ on the porch with a glass of sweet tea, but to each their own, I always say.
