Okay, so a few weeks ago, I saw this video online about playing tennis while pregnant. I thought, “Hey, I used to play a bit, and I’m pregnant, so why not give it a shot?” I’m all about staying active, and this seemed like a fun way to do it. Plus, I’ve always been kinda jealous of those super-fit pregnant women who seem to do everything.
First things first, I dug out my old tennis racket. It was a bit dusty, hiding in the back of the closet. Then, I found some comfy workout clothes that still fit over my growing belly – that was a challenge in itself! I also made sure I had a good pair of supportive sneakers. Safety first, you know?

Getting Started
- Checked with my doctor: This was super important. I wanted to make sure it was okay for me and the baby. Luckily, my doctor gave me the green light, but told me to listen to my body and not overdo it.
- Found a partner: I roped in my friend Sarah, who’s also a casual tennis player. It’s way more fun to play with someone, and it’s good to have a buddy in case I needed a break.
- Picked a court: We chose a local park with well-maintained courts. Nothing fancy, just a nice, smooth surface.
The first time out, I was a bit nervous. I mean, I’m definitely not as agile as I used to be. I started slow, just hitting the ball gently back and forth. No running for crazy shots or anything like that. I really focused on my breathing and took breaks whenever I felt even a little tired. I also drank tons of water.
It felt amazing to be back on the court! I was surprised at how much I enjoyed it, even with my limited mobility. My lower back hurt a little after practice. I felt like I could keep up with the practice of tennis, but with my body condition, I adjusted my moves a bit. I didn’t try to be a superstar, just enjoyed the game and the fresh air.
I’ve been playing a couple of times a week since then, and I’m really feeling the benefits. It’s a great way to get some exercise, and it’s a nice change from my usual walks and prenatal yoga. Of course, I’m always careful, and I know my limits. But it’s been such a positive experience, and I’m so glad I decided to give it a try!
If you’re pregnant and thinking about playing tennis (or any other activity), definitely talk to your doctor first. But if you get the okay, I say go for it! Just remember to take it easy and have fun.
