Okay, so you wanna know about Taylor Fritz’s tennis racket? Buckle up, it’s more than just hitting a ball!
First off, I started by just watching him play. I mean, the guy’s got a killer serve, right? I wanted to figure out what was giving him that extra oomph. So, I did some digging online, watched interviews, and even slowed down some match footage. It looked like he was swinging a pretty standard-looking blacked-out racket. Mystery time!

Then, I read a few articles, and saw some forum posts… apparently, it’s a Wilson H22 strung with Luxilon Alu Power! The H22 is a pro stock frame, which basically means you can’t just buy it off the shelf. It’s customized for pros. Bummer, right?
Next, I tried to get my hands on something similar. I figured, even if I can’t get the exact racket, I could get something close and try to match the string setup. So, I went down to my local tennis shop. I talked to the guy there, showed him some pictures of Fritz’s racket (as much as you can see!), and told him what I was trying to do.
We ended up settling on a Wilson Blade 98 (18×20) as a good starting point. It’s got a similar head size and string pattern to what Fritz uses. Not identical, but close enough for my skill level.
Okay, strings were next. I picked up a set of Luxilon Alu Power. It’s pricey, but if I wanted to try and match Fritz, gotta do it right? I had the shop string it up for me at around 55lbs. Figured that was a decent tension to start with.
Then came the fun part: hitting the court. The first few swings felt…different. The Alu Power is a pretty stiff string, and the Blade 98 is no slouch either. I had to really focus on my technique to get good contact. It took some getting used to. I adjusted my grip slightly and focused on a smooth, full swing.
After a few sessions, I started to feel more comfortable. I definitely noticed an increase in power and control, especially on my serves. It wasn’t like I suddenly had a 140mph serve like Fritz, but it felt more solid. The string definitely gave me more bite on the ball, allowing me to generate more spin.
Now, I’m not saying this setup will magically turn you into Taylor Fritz. He’s got years of training and natural talent that I’ll never have. But, experimenting with his racket and strings definitely gave me a better understanding of my own game and helped me improve my power and control. Plus, it’s just plain fun trying to emulate the pros!

Here’s a quick recap:
- Researched Taylor Fritz’s racket (Wilson H22, Luxilon Alu Power).
- Bought a Wilson Blade 98 (18×20) as a similar frame.
- Strung it with Luxilon Alu Power at 55lbs.
- Hit the court and adjusted my technique.
- Saw improvements in power and control.
Would I recommend this setup to everyone? Maybe not. The Alu Power is a stiff string and can be tough on the arm. But if you’re an advanced player looking for more power and control, it’s definitely worth a try. Just be prepared to put in some work to adjust to it.
Happy hitting!
