Alright, let’s talk about this tennis match thing, you know, the one that got stopped. They call it “suspended,” fancy word for “can’t finish it right now.”
What happens when they stop a tennis match? Well, it ain’t over, that’s for sure. They gotta come back and finish it later. Like, if it starts raining cats and dogs, or if it gets too dark to see the little yellow ball, they gotta stop. Can’t play tennis in the dark, can ya?

They don’t just say, “Oh well, let’s call it a tie.” No sir, they gotta finish what they started. They come back another day and pick up right where they left off. Same score, same players, same everything. It’s like when you’re making dinner and the power goes out, you gotta wait for the lights to come back on to finish cooking, right? Same deal.
- Rain, that’s a big one.
- Too dark, can’t see nothin’.
- Sometimes a player gets hurt, poor thing.
- And sometimes, believe it or not, it gets too darn hot! Like that time, I heard on the radio, those fellas playing in New York, and it got so hot, one of the coaches got sick. They had to stop the whole shebang.
So, what do they do when they stop? Well, first off, the ref, or whatever they call him, he tells them to stop. Then everybody packs up their stuff and goes home. They gotta figure out when they can come back and play again. It ain’t always easy, gotta find a time that works for everyone, and a court that’s free, too. It’s a whole rigmarole, you know?
Now, what if it’s been a long time? Like, more than a few hours? Well, sometimes they gotta start all over again. That’s not fair, if you ask me. But them rules are rules, I guess. They got people who make these decisions, you know, the bigwigs. They sit around and decide what’s what. I don’t understand half of it, to be honest. Too much mumbo jumbo for me.
I remember this one time, my grandson was telling me about a match. He said it got stopped because of the rain. They waited and waited, but the rain just wouldn’t stop. Finally, they said, “Okay, come back tomorrow.” And that’s what they did. They came back the next day and finished the match. My grandson was real happy, ’cause his favorite player won.
And speaking of waiting, when they stop for rain, sometimes they gotta wait a little while to see if it’ll stop. They just sit there, the players and the ref, looking up at the sky. Must be boring, just sittin’ there. I’d go crazy. I like to keep busy, you know, sweepin’ the porch, waterin’ the plants, that kind of thing. Sittin’ still ain’t my cup of tea.
So, who decides what to do? Well, it ain’t just one person. It’s a whole bunch of folks. They got the ref, and then they got these other people, they call ’em the “control committee.” Sounds fancy, huh? They all get together and decide what’s best. They look at the weather, they look at the time, and they make a decision. And that’s that. You can’t argue with ’em, they’re the bosses.
And if you bet on the game, well, that’s a whole ‘nother story. They got rules for that too. If they stop the game, sometimes you get your money back, sometimes you gotta wait till they finish, sometimes the bet just stands. It all depends on the rules of the betting place, I guess. I don’t gamble myself, too risky. I’d rather save my money for a good cup of coffee and a sweet roll.

So, that’s the long and short of it. When they stop a tennis match, it ain’t the end of the world. They just gotta come back and finish it later. It’s like life, sometimes things get interrupted, but you gotta keep going. You gotta pick up where you left off and keep tryin’. That’s what I always say. Just keep on keepin’ on.
And what happens when they come back? Well, like I said, they pick up right where they left off. Same score, same everything. It’s like they never left. But sometimes, it ain’t that easy. Sometimes a player gets hurt, or they lose their momentum, or they just ain’t playin’ as good as they were before. That’s just the way it goes, I guess. You gotta be ready for anything.
Anyway, that’s all I know about this suspended tennis match business. It’s a lot of rules and regulations, if you ask me. But I guess that’s how they keep things fair. Me? I’d rather just watch the pretty dresses and all that runnin’ around. Them tennis players are somethin’ else, all that energy. I get tired just watchin’ ‘em!
