My Sunflora Raid Disaster and Fix
Okay, so Sunflora popped up as a raid boss near me yesterday. Looked cute, right? Big sunflower Pokemon, how hard could it be? Famous last words. I figured since I beat other Grass-types easy, this would be a walk in the park. Total mistake.
I jumped into the raid lobby without even thinking. Just grabbed the first Pokemon the game suggested like a dummy. Big strong Mega something, Tyranitar… typical auto-pick nonsense. Timer hit zero, we started battling. And wow, I got wrecked almost immediately. Sunflora started blasting away with Solar Beam and my team melted like snow. Fainted Pokemon everywhere. I was scrambling to revive, totally panicked. We lost with, like, a quarter of its health left. Felt terrible, wasted a raid pass.

Time for Research & Building a Real Team
Alright, lesson learned. Don’t trust the auto-picker. Went home, opened up my Pokemon collection, and actually looked up what beats Sunflora properly. Turns out it’s pure Grass-type. Major weak spots:
- Fire (obviously burns grass!)
- Flying (wind blows seeds away, makes sense)
- Bug (bugs munch on plants)
- Ice (freezes the poor thing)
- Poison (rotten plant)
Also, forget about using Water, Ground, or Rock types – Sunflora resists those moves. Would just waste time.
Dug through my Pokemon storage:
- Mega Charizard Y (Fire/Flying, perfect double weakness!)
- Moltres (Sky Attack & Overheat, burns it good)
- Blaziken (Fire Spin & Blast Burn, solid backup fire)
- Staraptor (Wing Attack & Brave Bird, strong flying)
- Chandelure (Fire Spin & Overheat, spooky ghost fire)
- Shadow Scizor (Fury Cutter & X-Scissor, nasty bug type)
Made sure they all knew the right moves. Powering up and healing took a bit of dust and candy, but worth it.
The Rematch – Sweet Victory!
Sunflora raid popped again today. Same gym even. Perfect. Jumped in. This time, my lineup was ready: Mega Charizard Y first, then Moltres, Blaziken, Staraptor… the whole crew. Started the fight. Boom! Fire Spin right away. Saw those damage chunks flying off Sunflora’s health bar. Way better than yesterday. Didn’t even get halfway down my team – Mega Charizard Y practically roasted it solo with its Fire moves. Timer still had like 60 seconds left when Sunflora went down. Easy win! Got that cool sunflower catch afterward.
What I Learned Beating Sunflora
Simple lesson here: Don’t be lazy like I was. Raid auto-select is usually terrible. Takes five minutes to check a type chart and build a proper counter team. If you know Sunflora is coming, stack up on your best Fire and Flying attackers. Mega Charizard Y especially just dominates it. Anything with strong Fire Spin, Wing Attack, or good Bug moves will work wonders. Don’t mess with weak counters, you’ll just waste time and passes. Preparation makes raids easy.
