So, I got hooked on watching tennis recently, especially this guy Tommy Paul. I mean, he’s got some killer moves on the court! I decided I wanted to keep track of his scores, like a proper fan. I started simple, you know, just noting down the scores after each match.
First, I tried to make sense of how tennis scoring works. It’s not just 1, 2, 3. They use words like “love,” “15,” “30,” and “40.” I learned that a player needs to win four points to get a game. And to win a set, they need to bag six games. A match is won by winning two sets. It seemed easy enough.

I started jotting down Tommy’s scores on a piece of paper. Just the final scores at first. Like, I wrote down something like “Paul wins 6-4, 7-5” when he won a match in straight sets. But then I realized that was too basic, I needed more detail.
Next, I started noting down the scores for each game within a set. So, if he won a game, I’d write down things like “Paul wins the game 40-15.” I felt like a pro, keeping track of all these numbers. My notes started looking like a secret code with all those 15s, 30s, and 40s!
Then, I got even more serious. I thought, “Why not keep track of each point?” That’s when I started using a simple system of tally marks. Every time Tommy won a point, I’d add a mark. If he lost, I’d mark it separately. So my notes started having these little groups of tally marks, all messy and scribbled.
- Match 1:
- Set 1: (Paul wins 6-3)
- Set 2: (Paul wins 6-4)
- Match 2:
- Set 1: (Paul loses 2-6)
- Set 2: (Paul wins 7-5)
- Set 3: (Paul wins 6-2)
I even started paying attention to who was serving when. You see, the server usually says their score first. I’d put a little “S” next to the tally marks if Tommy was serving. My notes were getting really detailed now, I was practically a tennis score expert, at least in my own head!
This whole score-keeping thing became a bit of an obsession. Every time Tommy played, I’d be glued to the TV, pen and paper in hand, scribbling away like mad. I tried using these websites to find out when he’s playing. It felt like I was part of the action, even though I was just sitting on my couch. It’s kind of funny how into it I got, but hey, it’s fun to have a hobby, right? I’ve got pages and pages of these notes now. It’s my little record of Tommy Paul’s matches, all thanks to my growing love for tennis.
Today, I saw that Tommy Paul will be playing against Tomas Machac on October 9, I will keep my notebook ready and continue recording each point to track!
