Okay, so I’ve been trying to up my mental game in tennis lately. You know, it’s not just about hitting the ball, it’s about staying focused and positive, especially when things get tough on the court. So, I started looking for some motivational quotes to keep me going.
I started by just, you know, Googling around. I typed in stuff like “tennis quotes motivation” and “best tennis quotes” and things like that. I found a bunch of websites, some with lists of quotes, others with articles about famous players and their sayings.

I spent a good hour just browsing and reading. Some quotes really hit home, others, not so much. I was looking for things that were simple, easy to remember, and that I could actually use when I’m out there playing.
I decided to write down the ones I liked. I didn’t want anything too long or complicated. Just short, punchy phrases that I could repeat to myself during a match.
- “Believe you can and you’re halfway there.” – This one I liked.
- “The harder you work, the luckier you get.” – Heard this one from many players!
- “Just keep swing.” – Okay it is simple.
I grabbed my old notebook and started jotting them down. Seeing them written out made them feel more, I don’t know, real? Like, I could actually picture myself saying these things in my head when I’m down a break point or feeling frustrated.
Then, I figured, why not put some of these quotes where I can see them all the time? I printed out a few of the best ones and taped them to my tennis bag. So, every time I grab my bag to head to the courts, I see them.
Putting them into Practice
The real test, of course, is using them in a match. I played a practice set with a buddy, and I purposely tried to use the quotes. When I missed an easy shot, instead of getting down on myself, I repeated, “Just keep swing”. It actually helped!
I found that by focusing on these positive phrases, I was able to stay more relaxed and focused. I didn’t dwell on mistakes as much. I still have a long way to go, but it’s definitely a step in the right direction. It is just keep trying!
