Okay, so, let me tell you about my latest obsession: boxing. Specifically, I’ve been digging into this guy Julian Smith’s boxing style. I stumbled upon him on social media – you know, one of those rabbit holes you fall into. He’s got, like, thousands of followers. Saw some of his posts, maybe from September or October, don’t quite recall, but yeah, he was sharing some shoulder workouts and other boxing stuff. Seemed pretty legit.
So, I started following his drills. He’s got some videos out there, not sure where exactly, but I found them, maybe Facebook, maybe not. I began with the basics. Footwork first, you know? Gotta get that right. I spent a good few days just practicing moving around, mirroring his stance and motions from the videos I watched. Felt awkward at first, ngl, like a baby giraffe, but I pushed through.
Then, I moved onto the punches. I don’t have a heavy bag yet, so I’m shadow boxing in my living room, much to my cat’s dismay. I’m throwing jabs, crosses, trying to mimic Smith’s form. It’s tough! This guy, “Quiet Storm,” they call him, he’s a pro, after all, with a solid record, I think it’s like 9 wins 2 losses or something like that. Anyway, I’m sweating buckets, let me tell you. My shoulders are burning, but in a good way, you know?
I incorporated some of his shoulder movements into my routine. He had this post, I think it was from a while back, where he detailed like five different exercises. I’ve been doing those religiously. I’m not just doing boxing now, I am also lifting weights. I know he has 20 years of experience in the gym so I trust his advice. I’m also trying to eat better, though that’s a whole other story. Pizza is my weakness, not gonna lie.
- My stamina is definitely improving. I can go longer without feeling like I’m about to collapse.
- My punches feel…snappier? Is that a word? They just feel more powerful, I guess.
- I’m more aware of my body. Boxing really forces you to be in tune with your movements.
What I’ve noticed:
This Julian Smith boxing thing, it’s no joke. But I’m enjoying the process. It’s challenging, it’s rewarding, and honestly, it makes me feel pretty badass, even if I’m just flailing around in my living room. I’m gonna keep at it. Who knows, maybe one day I’ll actually step into a ring. For now, though, I’m happy being a living room warrior, inspired by the “Quiet Storm” himself.
