Okay, so here’s the deal. I got kinda curious the other day. Was watching a game, NBA, and I started wondering about the owners. Specifically, I wondered: “how many Jewish owners are there in the NBA?”
First thing I did, obviously, was hit up Google. Just typed in “Jewish NBA owners.” Got a bunch of articles, mostly about specific owners and their backgrounds, or articles about antisemitism in sports – which, honestly, wasn’t exactly what I was after at that moment. I was just looking for a headcount.

Next, I tried digging through the NBA official website. Thought maybe they’d have some kind of owner directory with bios or something. No such luck. It’s all very corporate and PR-managed, not exactly transparent about personal details like religious affiliation.
So, I started piecing things together. Took the list of NBA teams from Wikipedia (easy peasy) and started looking up the ownership for each team individually. This is where it got tedious, but necessary.
- I’d search “[Team Name] owner”
- Then, I’d try to find a reliable source, usually a news article from a reputable outlet (like ESPN, or the local news affiliate for the team’s city).
- Once I had a name, I’d Google that name + “Jewish.” Sometimes it was obvious from the get-go. Other times, it took some deeper digging.
The tricky part was confirming things. Some owners have very public profiles, and it’s easy to find info. But others are more private, and you have to rely on what you can find in news articles or profiles. I wasn’t trying to out anyone, just trying to satisfy my curiosity based on publicly available info.
It took a while, probably a couple of hours of Googling and reading. The search terms changed as I went. Sometimes it was “[Owner’s name] religion”, or “[Owner’s name] family background”, just trying to get a clearer picture.
So, after all that digging, what did I find? Well, I’m not going to give you an exact number, because honestly, I can’t guarantee 100% accuracy. It’s based on my interpretation of public information. But let’s just say the number of Jewish principal owners, or those with significant ownership stakes, is definitely present in the league. It’s not a small number.
Ultimately, this was more of a personal exercise in research and curiosity. I learned a bit about the backgrounds of some of the NBA’s top people, and it was interesting to see the different paths they took to get there.
Important Note: I’m not trying to make any statement or draw any conclusions based on the religious affiliation of these owners. It was purely a matter of curiosity. And like I said, do your own research to verify anything – I’m just a guy who spent an afternoon on Google!
