Okay, so today I decided to get back on the green and work on my golf swing. It’s been a while, so I knew I was in for a bit of a rough time. I’m calling this little project “yan liu golf,” just a simple name to keep track of my progress.
Getting Started
First things first, I gathered my gear. I dusted off my old clubs – they’ve definitely seen better days! – and found a bag of slightly-less-than-mangled golf balls. I also made sure I had my glove, because blisters are no fun.

Then I headed out to the local driving range. It wasn’t anything fancy, just a big open field with some distance markers. Perfect for a beginner like me to flail around without judgment (mostly).
The Practice Session
- I started with some easy swings, just trying to get a feel for the club again. My first few attempts? Let’s just say the ground took more of a beating than the ball.
- Then I tried to focus on my stance. I remembered watching some videos online, so I attempted to mimic what I saw. Wider stance, knees bent, back straight…ish.
- I spent a good hour just hitting balls. Some went straight, some sliced dramatically to the right, and a few even went backwards (don’t ask).
- The most frustrating part was the inconsistency. I’d hit one decent shot, feel like I’d finally figured it out, and then completely shank the next one.
Wrapping Up
By the end, I was tired, sweaty, and my hands were starting to ache. But, you know what? It felt good to be out there. Even though I wasn’t exactly hitting like a pro, I enjoyed the process of trying to improve.
I packed up my gear, promising myself I’d come back again soon. This “yan liu golf” thing is going to be a journey, and I’m kind of excited to see where it goes. Maybe one day I’ll actually be able to hit the ball consistently… maybe.
