Okay, so I’ve been messing around with my golf clubs lately, and I gotta say, the grips were, well, kinda gross. They were all worn out and slippery, making my shots feel super inconsistent. Time for a change, I figured!
Getting Started
First, I went online and started looking at replacement grips. I came across Royal Grip, and honestly, I was just drawn in by the name. It sounded fancy, you know? Plus, the reviews seemed pretty decent, so I decided to give them a shot.

I ordered a set online—pretty standard stuff. You know, picking the color (went with classic black, can’t go wrong), and the size. Make sure to measure your hand if you’re doing this yourself, don’t just guess! I used to do it, but I’m not anymore.
The Dirty Work
Once the grips arrived, it was time for the messy part. Getting the old grips off is always a pain. I used a hook blade (be careful with those things!) and some solvent to try and loosen them up. It’s basically like peeling a stubborn sticker, but way more annoying. Took me a good while, and my hands were definitely feeling it.

- Peel the old grips like peeling a stubborn sticker.
Putting on the New Royal Grips
Putting the new grips on was surprisingly easier. I used some double-sided tape on the shaft, lubed up the inside of the new Royal Grips with some more solvent (that stuff is magic), and then slid them on. The key is to work fast before the solvent dries. You gotta line them up straight, too, or it’ll bug you forever. Trust me, I’ve messed that up before.
The new Royal Grips feel great in hand, solid, sticky, is a great feeling.
The Result
After letting them dry overnight (super important!), I took my clubs out to the range. And man, what a difference! My grip felt way more secure, and I felt like I had way more control over the club. I’m not saying I suddenly became a pro, but my shots were definitely more consistent. I wasn’t death-gripping the club anymore, which actually helped me relax my swing.
So, yeah, that’s my little Royal Grip adventure. It’s a small thing, changing your grips, but it can really make a big impact on your game. If your grips are looking sad, I’d definitely recommend giving it a try. Just be prepared for a little bit of elbow grease!
