Alright, let me tell you about this golf thing I got roped into, the “Bottoms Up Charity Golf Tournament”. Sounded kinda fun, and for a good cause, so I figured, why not?
Getting Started
First off, heard about it from my buddy Dave. He called me up, said they needed a fourth for their team. I hadn’t swung a club properly in months, maybe longer, but Dave’s persuasive. Plus, charity, right? Makes you feel a bit better about spending a day hacking away at a little white ball.

So, I said yes. Dug out my clubs from the back of the garage. Man, they were dusty. Gave ’em a quick wipe down. Found my golf shoes, thankfully they still fit. Didn’t really practice much, just showed up hoping for the best.
The Day Of
Got to the course bright and early. Lots of people milling around, checking in. You could feel a bit of buzz, you know? Everyone seemed pretty relaxed, not like some serious tournaments I’ve been to. Grabbed some coffee and a donut they had laid out.
We found our cart, loaded up the bags. Met the rest of Dave’s crew. Good guys. We weren’t expecting to win anything, just have a decent time. The organizers gave a little speech, talked about the charity we were supporting, which was nice. Reminded everyone why we were there.
Playing the Round (and the “Bottoms Up” part)
We teed off mid-morning. The weather was perfect, not too hot. My first drive? Terrible. Shanked it right into the trees. Classic. We all had a good laugh though. That set the tone, really. Nobody was taking it too seriously.
Now, the “Bottoms Up” part. They had these specific rules at certain holes, usually the par 3s. If nobody on your team hit the green, you had to finish your drink. Or sometimes they had a drinks cart making rounds, encouraging a toast for a good shot (or a terrible one). Let’s just say hydration wasn’t an issue.
- We definitely had a few “bottoms up” moments on those par 3s.
- Lots of cheering when someone actually did hit the green.
- The drinks cart seemed to find us quite often. Funny how that happens.
It kept things light. Made the bad shots less painful, celebrated the good ones a bit more. We played a scramble format, so we used the best shot from the team each time. Saved me a lot of embarrassment, let me tell you.
Wrapping Up
Finished the round, felt pretty good. Tired, a bit sunburnt, but good. We turned in our scorecard, didn’t even bother checking the leaderboard too closely. We knew we weren’t contenders.

They had food afterwards, burgers and stuff. Sat around, chatted with other players. Heard some funny stories from the course. They announced the winners and handed out some prizes, mostly gag gifts which fit the vibe.
Most importantly, they announced how much money was raised for the charity. That was the best part. Felt good to be a small part of that, just by showing up and having a bit of fun.
Overall, it was a solid day. Good company, lots of laughs, managed to hit a few decent shots between the bad ones, and it all supported a good cause. Would I do it again? Yeah, probably. Just need to find my swing before then. Maybe.
