Okay, so I’ve been trying to get better at MLB The Show 23 on my Xbox, and let me tell you, figuring out the whole jumping and diving thing was a real pain at first. But I’ve finally got the hang of it, and I figured I’d share what I learned so other folks don’t have to struggle like I did.

Getting Started With Fielding

First off, before you even think about jumping, you gotta understand the basics of fielding. When I first loaded up the game, I just jumped straight into a match and, well, it wasn’t pretty. So, take my advice and mess around with the settings first. There’s this “Gameplay” area where you can tweak all sorts of stuff. I spent a good hour just getting the hang of moving my players around the field.

The Jumping and Diving Saga

Now, onto the main event – jumping and diving. By default, the game has this weird setup where one button does both, and it decides for you whether you should jump or dive. I found this super confusing. In the heat of the moment, you don’t want the game making decisions for you! So, here’s what I did:

  • Diving: I set the RT button for diving. It felt natural to me, like a trigger to make my player hit the dirt.
  • Jumping: For jumping, I went with RB. It’s right there next to the dive button, so it’s easy to remember.

Practicing in Custom Mode

Once I had my settings sorted, I didn’t just hop into a game. No way. I went into this “Custom Practice” mode. It’s a lifesaver. I set the difficulty to “Legend” to really push myself. At first, I was whiffing like crazy, missing every ball. But, you know what? It really sharpened my reflexes. I was getting used to those super-fast pitches and getting my timing down.

Using the Right Stick

Here’s a little trick I picked up: using the right stick for jumping. I used to just mash the buttons, but that’s not very precise. When a high ball is coming, and you need to jump up against the wall, you gotta push the right stick towards the wall. It took some practice, but I started to get the timing right. It’s way more effective than just using the buttons, trust me.

My Experience in Real Games

After all that practice, I finally felt ready to take on some real games. And let me tell you, it made a huge difference. In those clutch moments when I needed to make a diving catch or jump up to snag a home run, it all came naturally. I wasn’t fumbling with the controls or second-guessing myself.

Wrapping Up

So, that’s my journey to figuring out jumping and diving in MLB The Show 23. It wasn’t easy, but with some patience and practice, I got there. If you’re struggling, just remember: mess with the settings, use that custom practice mode, and get the hang of that right stick. You’ll be making those game-saving plays in no time!
