Alright, so the other day, this thought just popped into my head, you know, like it does when the weather starts to turn a tiny bit, or you see an old highlight reel. That familiar itch: just how long do I have to wait until football season is back in full swing?
So, first thing I did, pretty obvious, I guess, was to try and figure out the actual start date. I mean, you can’t count down if you don’t know what you’re counting down to, right? I fired up my old trusty computer, opened a web browser – you know the drill.

I remember typing in something straightforward. Probably “NFL season start date” or “when does college football start”. I try to keep it simple. I wasn’t looking for a philosophical debate, just a date, plain and simple. A bunch of search results came up, as they always do. Sports news sites, official league pages, fan forums buzzing with early predictions.
I clicked on a couple of the more official-looking ones. You gotta be careful, sometimes you get those fan sites that are just guessing. I skimmed through the articles, looking for that key piece of information. Took a minute or two, scrolling past ads and other stories, but eventually, I landed on it. A specific date. Let’s say, for example, it was something like the first Thursday in September for the pros, or maybe the last Saturday in August for some college games. I made a mental note, or sometimes I’ll jot it down on a sticky note if I’m feeling particularly organized.
Okay, so step one, done. Got the target date.
Figuring out the actual countdown
Now, the next part. How many days exactly? This is where it gets a tiny bit more involved than just looking up a date. I mean, I could pull out a physical calendar and start counting. “One, two, three…” but honestly, that feels like a chore, and I’m bound to lose count or mess up with the months having different numbers of days.
So, back to the computer I went. This time, my search query was a bit different. I typed in something like “days between two dates calculator” or “how many days until [the date I found]”. There are tons of these little online tools. Super handy, I tell ya.
I picked one of the first results that looked clean and simple. Most of them work the same way. They’ll have a spot for “Start Date” and “End Date”.
For the “Start Date,” I just put in today’s date.

For the “End Date,” I carefully typed in the football season start date I had found earlier.
Then, there’s usually a big button that says “Calculate” or “Find a Number of Days” or something like that. I clicked it.
And bam! Just like that, the website crunched the numbers. It told me exactly how many days, and sometimes even how many weeks, hours, and minutes I had to wait. Seeing that number, right there on the screen, it’s a mix of “Oh man, still that long?” and “Alright, it’s a concrete number, I can do this!”
So yeah, that was my little adventure in figuring it out. No complex algorithms, no secret insider info. Just a couple of simple web searches and using a handy online tool. Now I know, and the official countdown can begin in my head. It’s the little things, you know?
