Okay, so today I tried to figure out how long my reach is ’cause I’m getting into boxing. It’s not as easy as it sounds, man. You need someone to help you out, can’t really do it on your own.
Getting Started
First, I got my buddy to help me. I stood up straight against a wall, just like I saw in some online guide. I stretched my arms out to the sides, making sure they were straight and parallel to the ground. We had a measuring tape ready to go.

Taking the Measurement
Next, my buddy started measuring from the tip of my middle finger on my left hand all the way to the tip of my middle finger on my right hand. It was a bit awkward trying to hold still, but we managed. We did it a couple of times just to make sure we were getting it right.
My Reach
Turns out, my reach is 74 inches. It’s longer than average. From what I’ve read, the average reach for pro boxers is about 71 inches, so I guess I’ve got a bit of an advantage there. It’s pretty cool to know this kind of stuff. I never really thought about my reach before, but now I’m wondering how I can use it in boxing.
What’s Next
Now that I know my reach, I need to figure out how to use it. I read somewhere that if you’ve got a long reach, you can keep your opponent at a distance and land punches without getting too close. Sounds good, but I bet it takes a lot of practice to get it right. I also gotta work on my footwork and stuff ’cause reach isn’t everything.
Anyways, that was my little experiment for the day. It was fun, and I learned something new about myself. I’ll keep you guys posted on my boxing journey. Maybe next time, I’ll try to figure out my punching power or something. Stay tuned!
