Alright, let’s talk about this golf shamble thing. You know, I ain’t no fancy golfer or nothin’, but I’ve seen folks play it, and it seems kinda fun, kinda like a team effort thing.
What is this golf shamble anyway?

Well, from what I gather, it’s like this. You get a bunch of folks together, a team, you know? And then everybody hits their ball off the tee. Now, after that, they all go look at where their balls landed, and they pick the best one. Yup, the best one out of the whole bunch. Then, everybody moves their ball over to where that best ball is.
Here’s the thing though, it ain’t like a scramble where everybody just keeps hittin’ from the best spot every time. Nah, after they move their ball to the best spot, everybody plays their own ball from there on out, all the way to the hole. So, it’s like, a little bit of teamwork at the start, and then everybody does their own thing.
- First, everyone hits their tee shot.
- Then, the team picks the best tee shot.
- Everyone moves their ball to the best spot.
- After that, everyone plays their own ball into the hole.
Why do folks like it, you ask?
Well, I reckon it’s because it takes some of the pressure off. You know, if you hit a bad shot off the tee, you ain’t totally screwed. The team’s got your back, and you get to play from the best spot. But then, you still get to show off your own skills, ’cause you’re playin’ your own ball after that. It’s a good mix, you know? Not too much pressure, but still enough to make it interesting.
It ain’t as slow as some other golf games neither.
Since everybody’s playin’ their own ball after that first shot, things move along pretty quick. You ain’t waitin’ around forever for folks to putt and all that. And that’s a good thing, ’cause nobody wants to be out there all day long, especially when the sun’s beatin’ down on ya.
Now, some folks might say it’s too easy or somethin’.

But I don’t think so. It’s still golf, you know? You still gotta hit the ball straight, you still gotta putt good. It just gives you a little helpin’ hand at the start, that’s all. And sometimes, that’s all you need to have a good time. It’s like having a good neighbor help you move a heavy stone in the field, you still gotta do the work, but it’s easier to get started.
What’s the difference between a shamble and other golf formats?
Some folks get it mixed up with a scramble or a best ball. But it ain’t the same. In a scramble, everybody keeps hittin’ from the best spot, every single time. And in a best ball, everybody plays their own ball the whole time, and then you just take the best score from the team on each hole. A shamble is like a mix of the two, see? A little bit of this, a little bit of that.
How do you score a shamble?
Well, usually you add up the best two scores from the team on each hole. So, if one fella gets a five, another gets a six, and the other two get sevens, you take the five and the six, and that’s eleven for the hole. Then you add up all the scores for each hole, and that’s your team score. Simple as that.
Is a shamble right for you?
Well, if you like a little teamwork, but you still want to show off your own skills, then yeah, it might be. It’s good for all kinds of golfers, the good ones and the not-so-good ones. It’s a fun way to play, and it don’t take itself too seriously. And that’s important, you know? Golf should be fun. It’s like a potluck supper, everyone brings something to the table and it all works out in the end.

So, there you have it. That’s a golf shamble, plain and simple. It ain’t rocket science, but it’s a good time. If you get a chance to play it, give it a shot. You might just like it.
Golf Shambles are good for company events too.
You know, it ain’t just for the fancy golf clubs or nothin’. I’ve seen regular folks play it at company outings and stuff like that. It’s a good way to get everybody involved, and it don’t matter if some folks ain’t never played before. It’s all about havin’ fun and buildin’ some team spirit. And that’s a good thing, no matter how you look at it.
