Alright, listen up, y’all. We’re gonna talk about this “shamble” thing in golf. Don’t go gettin’ all fancy on me, it ain’t that complicated. It’s just a way to play golf, kinda like how there’s different ways to cook an egg, ya know? Scrambled, fried, boiled… this “shamble” is just another way to play the game.
So, here’s the deal. You get yourself a bunch of folks, usually four, but sometimes two or three will do. Everybody whacks the ball off the tee, just like normal. Whack! Then, you all go lookin’ for the best ball. Not your ball, necessarily, but the best one out of the whole bunch. See, that’s the “team” part of it. You’re workin’ together, kinda like when we used to shuck corn as a family, everybody doin’ their part.

Find the best ball, that’s the key. Now, once you find that purty good ball, that’s where you all start playin’ your own ball from. So, you pick up your ball, and you go put it near that good one. Not right on top of it, mind you, but close enough. And then, you play your own ball into the hole. Just like regular golf, hit it, find it, hit it again, until it goes in the little cup. Simple as that.
- Everybody hits from the tee.
- Find the best drive.
- Everybody plays their own ball from near that best drive.
- Count up all the scores at the end.
Now, some folks get all hung up on this “handicap” thing. Says it makes it fair. I say, just play the game, but if you gotta do it, they usually take off a little bit of your handicap. Like, if you normally get 10 strokes, maybe they’ll only give you 8. Something like that. Don’t worry too much about it, it’s just numbers. Focus on hittin’ that little white ball, that’s what matters.
This shamble game, it’s kinda fun, see? Cause you get to work with your buddies, but you also get to play your own game. It ain’t like that “scramble” thing where everybody just keeps hittin’ the same ball. In shamble, you get to see how you do, after gettin’ a good start. It’s like gettin’ a little boost, ya know? Like gettin’ a head start in a race.
And there’s different ways to play it, too. Just like there’s different ways to make a pie. Apple pie, cherry pie, pecan pie… you get the idea. Some folks play with four on a team, some with two. And the handicap thing, that can change too. But the main idea is the same: hit the ball, find the best one, then play your own from there.
Think of it like this: you’re plantin’ a garden. Everybody helps to prepare the soil, gettin’ it all nice and ready. That’s like hittin’ the tee shot. Then, you find the best spot to plant, the one with the most sun. That’s like pickin’ the best drive. And then, everybody tends to their own plants, waterin’ them, weedin’ them, makin’ sure they grow. That’s like playin’ your own ball into the hole. See? It ain’t so hard.
So, if you’re lookin’ for a new way to play golf, give this shamble thing a try. It’s a good way to have some fun with your friends, and it ain’t too complicated. Just remember: hit the ball, find the best one, play your own. That’s all there is to it. Now go on, get out there and have some fun!
And don’t forget to bring some snacks! Golf can make a body hungry. A little sandwich, maybe some fruit, that’ll keep you goin’. And don’t forget the water! Gotta stay hydrated, especially when it’s hot out. Just like workin’ in the fields, gotta take care of yourself.

One more thing: don’t get too frustrated if you don’t hit the ball perfect every time. Nobody does! Even those fellas on TV, they miss shots sometimes. Just keep swingin’, keep tryin’, and have fun. That’s what it’s all about.
