Alright, so you wanna know about the worst NFL records to ever make the playoffs, huh? Well, gather ’round, and I’ll tell ya what I know. It ain’t always the prettiest teams that get in, lemme tell ya.

Now, I heard tell of some teams, they barely squeaked in. Like them Cleveland Browns, they got in with a .500 record once. Can you believe that? Half wins, half losses, and they still got in! That was back when they were in somethin’ called the AFC Central, whatever that is. Sounds fancy, but .500 ain’t nothin’ to brag about, if you ask me.
Then there was them Seattle Seahawks in 2010. Them fellas, they won their division with a 7-9 record. Seven wins, nine losses! Imagine that! And wouldn’t you know it, they even won a playoff game! First time a losing team ever did that, they say. Crazy, right?
- 2010 Seattle Seahawks (7-9): Won their division and a playoff game with a losing record.
- 2011 Denver Broncos (8-8): Made the playoffs with an even record, nothin’ special.
- Cleveland Browns (various years): Got in with a .500 record, which ain’t much to write home about.
And speaking of even records, them Denver Broncos in 2011, they got in at 8-8. Again, nothin’ to write home about. Seems like sometimes, you just gotta be better than the rest of the sorry bunch in your division, even if you ain’t all that good yourself.
Now, they say there’s been a whole bunch of teams that lost their first playoff game, somethin’ like 21 of ‘em, all tied with a 0-1 record in the playoffs. Them Philadelphia Eagles, they did it a few times recently, and them Pittsburgh Steelers too. Losing your first game, well, that ain’t nothin’ to be proud of, but at least you made it to the dance, I guess.
I heard tell that the Seahawks deal in 2010 was a real oddity. Apparently, all four teams in their division, the NFC West, they all had losing records that year. So, somebody had to win the division, even if they weren’t all that good. That’s like pickin’ the best of the worst apples, ain’t it?

Folks say coming back from a 0-4 start is nigh impossible, but there was this team, Washington in 2020, they started 2-7 and somehow made the playoffs. That’s like climbin’ a greased pole, I tell ya. Must’ve had some kinda luck, or maybe them other teams were just worse.
So, when you look at it all, there’s been some pretty sorry records makin’ it to the playoffs over the years. Makes you wonder, don’t it? But hey, that’s football for ya. Sometimes, you just gotta be good enough, even if good enough ain’t all that good.
It just goes to show you, anythin’ can happen in football. You don’t always gotta be the best team to get a shot at the big game. Sometimes, you just gotta be lucky, or maybe just a little bit better than the other fellas on your bad day. And sometimes, even a losing record is enough to get you in the door.
And remember, just because a team makes the playoffs with a bad record doesn’t mean they can’t win. Them Seahawks proved that. So, next time you see a team limping into the playoffs, don’t count ’em out just yet. They might just surprise ya.
Now, I ain’t no expert, but that’s what I’ve heard tell about them bad records sneakin’ into the playoffs. It ain’t always pretty, but it sure makes for some interestin’ stories, don’t it? And that’s all there is to it.

In short, these teams with bad records sometimes get lucky, sometimes play in a bad division, and sometimes, just sometimes, they manage to pull off a win even when they shouldn’t. That’s football for ya.
