Okay so here’s the thing about hitting in MLB The Show 24, right? Man, I was STRUGGLING hard with my batting. Felt like I was swinging underwater half the time, especially on anything inside. Couldn’t track the ball worth a damn. Saw some folks online suggesting changing the hitting view. Figured, hey, gotta try something new, so I did. This is my mess trying to fix those garbage camera views.
The Starting Point: Frustration City
Started with Strike Zone view, the default everyone swears by. Felt okay at first, I guess? But man, I just couldn’t react fast enough to high fastballs. Pitches seemed super zoomed in or something, like I was looking through binoculars. Every inside pitch felt like it was coming right at my face. Swinging wildly, tons of pop-ups, just ugly baseball. Knew something had to give.
Diving Into the Camera Menu Graveyard
Opened up the camera settings. Man, there are SO many options under “Batting Views”. It’s overwhelming. Started scrolling. Saw Strike Zone 2. Gave that a shot. Still felt too close. Switched to Strike Zone High. Okay, better for seeing those high heaters? But then curveballs low just disappeared completely! Couldn’t pick up the break at all.
Then I saw The Show 15. Remembered people liking that back in the day. Tried it. WHOA. Suddenly the whole field is visible! Felt like I was actually standing at the plate. Could see the pitcher’s motion clearly, catcher setting up… but dang, that ball got tiny once it left the pitcher’s hand! Tracking the tiny white dot across the screen? Forget it. Felt like playing catch with a fly.
Accidental Discovery and a Lot of Tiny Adjustments
Scrolled further. Almost gave up. Saw Offset Zoom. Never even heard of that one. Said “screw it” and selected it. BAM. Different look entirely. Ball stayed a decent size AND the view stayed behind the batter instead of that super tight behind-the-plate thing. More like the broadcast cameras. Gave me way better perspective on pitch movement.
But it wasn’t perfect yet. The default zoom was still a bit wonky. Kept messing with the sliders:
- Zoom: Turned it down a few notches. Too zoomed made it hard again. Found a sweet spot where the ball was big enough but I could still see some of the field.
- Height: Bumped it up slightly. Felt like I was sitting a bit higher, helped see those low breaking balls.
- Angle: Actually left this almost default? Tweaked it one click down and it felt more natural.
Took a few games of constant, tiny nudges to get it feeling right. Like seriously, changing it mid-at-bat sometimes.
The Lightbulb Moment (and Why It Took Me This Long)
Played a game using my slightly tweaked Offset Zoom settings. First inning, hit a double down the line. Next at-bat, smoked a hanging slider into the gap. Holy smokes. It wasn’t magic – I still struck out looking silly sometimes – but I was SEEING the ball. Like, actually reading the pitch type out of the pitcher’s hand before it got halfway.
Felt stupid, honestly. Spent YEARS just sticking with Strike Zone because “pros use it.” Didn’t even bother digging into other camera angles properly until I was ready to break my controller. Turns out, my old eyes and reaction times just needed a different setup entirely.
So yeah, if you’re pulling your hair out, get out of those Strike Zone tunnels! Try Offset Zoom, mess with the sliders A LOT, give your brain a different picture. Might not be the trendy choice, but sometimes that cliché “find what works for you” is actually the damn truth. Took me way too many at-bats to figure it out.
