Okay, so I finally decided to get back on the court and try this “ecc tennis” thing everyone’s been talking about. I dusted off my old racket, found some balls that weren’t completely flat, and headed out.
Getting Started
First things first, I needed to find a court. Luckily, there’s a park nearby with some public courts. I drove over, parked, and walked to the courts, hoping one would be free. It was a pretty nice day, so I wasn’t too surprised to see a few people already playing.

I waited around for a bit, watching the others play, trying to remember how to actually hit the ball. After about 20 minutes, a court opened up, and I jumped at the chance.
The Practice
- Warm-up: I started with some light hitting, just trying to get a feel for the racket and the ball again. It had been a while, so my swings were pretty rusty.
- Forehands: I focused on my forehand, trying to get the motion smooth and consistent. I kept reminding myself to bend my knees and follow through. Some went in, some went out, some went… well, let’s just say they didn’t go where I wanted them to.
- Backhands: Next up were backhands. These were definitely trickier. I struggled a bit with the grip and the timing, but I kept at it.
- Serving: I practiced some serves last. I tossed the ball up, swung the racket, and… sometimes it went over the net! It takes some tries to get used to it.
Cooling Down
After about an hour, I was pretty tired. I did some stretches to cool down, packed up my gear, and headed home. It was a good workout, and even though I was a bit sore, it felt great to be back on the court. I’m definitely going to try to make this a regular thing.
