Okay, so I finally decided to get off my butt and try out that “ecc tennis” thing everyone’s been talking about. I’d seen some stuff online, and it looked pretty cool, so I figured, why not?
First things first, I needed to find a place that actually offered it. Did a quick search and found a few sports centers nearby that had ecc tennis courts. I called one up, booked a court for an hour, and roped in a buddy to join me. We are both new to this.
We got to the center, checked in, and they gave us these special paddles – they were smaller and lighter than regular tennis rackets. Also gave us a run-down of the basic rules, which, thankfully, weren’t too different from regular tennis, but with a few twists.
- The court is smaller, more like a badminton-sized court.
- The net is lower.
- The serve is underarm.
We started hitting the ball around, just trying to get a feel for it. The smaller court meant we had to be quicker with our reactions. The ball bounced a little differently, too – it felt a bit… bouncier? We spent the first 15 minutes just trying not to whiff completely.
Getting the Hang of It
After a while, we started to get the hang of the shorter swings and the faster pace. We even managed to get some rallies going! It was definitely a workout – I was sweating way more than I expected. My friend was really getting into it, diving for shots like a maniac.
We played a few “games,” not really keeping score, just trying to get the ball over the net and in bounds. It felt pretty good to connect with the ball and send it flying, I won’t lie. There were a lot of missed shots and laughs, of course.
By the end of the hour, we were both pretty tired, but in a good way. It was a fun, fast-paced, and a surprisingly good workout. We’re already talking about booking another session next week. I might even look into getting my own paddle – that’s how much I enjoyed it!
