Alright, so today I wanna share my deep dive into something kinda random: ranking the best American white NBA players. Yeah, I know, sounds a bit weird, but hear me out – it was a fun thought experiment!
First off, I had to set some ground rules. I mean, what exactly does “best” mean? For me, it was a mix of stats, impact on their teams, and just that general “wow” factor. And obviously, they had to be American and white – no room for debate there!

So, I started digging. I hit up Basketball-Reference like a madman, pouring over career stats, playoff performances, everything. I watched old game highlights on YouTube – gotta love the grainy footage! I even lurked on some NBA forums to see what the hardcore fans were saying. It was a serious rabbit hole.
The Names That Kept Popping Up:
- Larry Bird: Duh. Obviously. The Hick from French Lick. No brainer.
- John Stockton: Assist king. A total legend.
- Kevin Love: Rebounding machine, and a decent shooter.
- Dirk Nowitzki: Wait, he’s German, right? Okay, strike that one. Nearly slipped up there.
- Bill Walton: Dominated college, pretty good when healthy in the NBA.
Okay, so with the names in front of me, it was time to actually rank them. This is where it got tough. Bird is untouchable, right? But then, Stockton’s longevity and assist record… it’s hard to ignore.
Here’s How I Ended Up Ranking Them (subject to change based on my mood tomorrow):
- Larry Bird: Come on. Three rings, three MVPs, one of the greatest ever, regardless of race. End of discussion.
- John Stockton: The assists speak for themselves. Guy was a machine.
- Kevin Love: Got a ring and great stats!
- Bill Walton: When healthy, he was amazing.
The Takeaways:
This was a fun exercise! It reminded me how much talent there has been in the NBA. I guess I can now brag I spent an afternoon thinking about random basketball stuff.
Anyway, that’s my take! Let me know what you think. Who would you have on your list?
