Alright, so you wanna know how much them NFL fellas, the scout guys, you know, the ones watchin’ the young’uns play ball, how much they make? Well, it ain’t always easy to say, kinda like guessin’ how many beans in a jar. But I heard some things, you know, from folks talkin’.
First off, it ain’t like they all makin’ the same. Some get more, some get less. Like, some of them new guys, just startin’ out, they might not be gettin’ much. I heard tell some might only get somethin’ like twenty thousand a year. That ain’t a whole lot, considerin’ how much them players make, right?

- Some folks say it’s more like forty thousand a year on average
- And the real good ones, the ones been doin’ it a long time, the ones knowin’ a good player when they see one, they could be makin’ up to seventy thousand a year, maybe even more. That’s good money, but still, it ain’t player money, ya know?
Now, some places, they pay by the hour. I heard tell of thirteen, fourteen dollars an hour. That’s okay, I guess, but you gotta put in a lotta hours, watchin’ all them games, travelin’ all over the place. It ain’t just sittin’ on your behind, you know. You gotta be lookin’ close, seein’ who’s fast, who’s strong, who’s got the heart of a lion.
And then there’s the big bosses, the chief scouts, they call ’em. Them fellas, they make the real money. Heard tell some of them gettin’ up to sixty thousand a year, maybe even more. That’s a whole lotta money. But they got a lotta responsibility too. They gotta make sure their team gets the best players, the ones gonna win the games.
But it ain’t just about the money, ya know? These scout fellas, they gotta love the game. They gotta know it inside and out. They gotta be able to see somethin’ special in a player, somethin’ other folks might miss. It’s like lookin’ at a field of corn, and pickin’ out the best ear, even when they all look kinda the same.
They gotta watch these young fellas playin’ college ball, and they gotta figure out if they got what it takes to make it in the NFL. They look at how fast they run, how strong they are, how well they catch the ball. But they also gotta look at their heart, ya know? Are they tough? Are they smart? Are they good teammates? It ain’t just about muscles and speed.
They got this big thing they call the Scouting Combine, sounds fancy, huh? It’s like a big show, where all the best college players go, and the scouts get to watch ’em up close. They measure ’em, they test ’em, they poke ’em and prod ’em, tryin’ to figure out if they’re worth a darn. It’s a big deal, this Combine. It can make or break a player’s career.
And then there’s the thinkin’ part, they gotta look at how a player acts, if he’s a good leader, if he works hard, if he treats his teammates right. And they gotta use them newfangled computery things, what they call analytics, to look at all the numbers, see who’s really good and who’s just lucky. It’s a lotta work, I tell ya. More than just watchin’ games.
So, yeah, how much they make? It depends. Some make a little, some make a lot. But they all gotta love the game, and they all gotta be good at seein’ talent. It ain’t easy work, but somebody gotta do it. Otherwise, how them teams gonna find the good players?

And let me tell ya, findin’ good players, well, that’s worth its weight in gold, or maybe even more these days, considerin’ how much them tickets and jerseys cost!
