Alright, so I wanted to figure out this whole position-switching thing in MLB The Show 24. I’d heard some chatter online, but nothing concrete, so I decided to dive in and see for myself.
Experiment Time!
First, I jumped into a regular “Play Now” game. You know, just a quick exhibition match. I picked the Dodgers because, well, they’re the Dodgers. I figured I’d start simple. I went into the lineup and tried to drag and drop Mookie Betts from the outfield to, say, shortstop. Nope. Didn’t work. The game just wouldn’t let me.
Then, I thought, “Okay, maybe it’s different in Franchise mode.” So, I started a new Franchise, again with the Dodgers. I went into the roster, found Betts, and tried the same thing. Still nothing. The game is pretty strict about keeping guys in their primary positions, at least initially.
Road to the Show – A Different Story?
Next, I headed over to “Road to the Show,” which is where things get interesting. I created a new player, and during the creation process, the game actually asked me what my preferred positions were. You get to pick a primary and a couple of secondary positions.
I selected shortstop as my primary, and second base and third base as my secondaries. Once I got into the actual gameplay, my manager would occasionally move me around between those three positions depending on the team’s needs. So, there is some position switching, but it’s controlled by the game, not me directly.
Diamond Dynasty Shenanigans
Finally, I checked out Diamond Dynasty. The cards you collect for players in Diamond Dynasty show what position they play. For example, I might collect cards of Mookie Betts for his designated position like Right Fielder. When forming up the team, I can put these cards into the position as shown on the cards.
The Verdict
So, here’s the lowdown, based on my messing around:
- Play Now/Franchise: You can’t just freely swap players around. The game keeps them locked to their default positions.
- Road to the Show: You choose your preferred positions, and the game moves you around based on those and team needs.
- Diamond Dynasty: You can put players into their positions as designated on their cards.
It’s not quite as flexible as some people might want, but there are ways to get players playing different positions, especially in Road to the Show. I’m still exploring Diamond Dynasty to see if there are any other tricks, but that’s my experience so far!
