Alright, let’s talk about this Hawaii football team, you know, the Rainbow Warriors. Heard they got a whole bunch of young fellas playin’ this year, so I figured I’d try and make sense of it all. Don’t know much about fancy football talk, but I can tell ya who’s playin’ where, or at least try to.
Now, they got this thing called a “depth chart.” Sounds all official, but it just means who’s startin’ and who’s sittin’ on the bench, ready to jump in if someone gets a boo-boo or just needs a breather. So, let’s start with the fellas throwin’ the ball, the quarterbacks.
Quarterbacks: Looks like they got a few of ’em. I heard tell of a fella named Micah Alejado. He’s number 12, they say he’s quick on his feet. Probably needs to be, them big fellas on defense tryin’ to knock ya silly. Don’t know who else is backin’ him up, but there’s always someone, right? Gotta have a spare tire, just in case.
Running Backs: These are the guys that carry the ball, like little tractors chuggin’ along. They gotta be tough, real tough. Can’t be scared of gettin’ tackled. Wish I knew their names, but I heard they got some good ones. Gotta be strong to push through all them big bodies.
- Running Back 1: This fella’s the main man, the one they give the ball to most of the time. He better be good, or they’ll be sittin’ him down faster than a fly on a hot stove.
- Running Back 2: He’s the backup, waitin’ for his chance. Gotta be ready to go when they call his number.
- Running Back 3: Probably just a young fella, learnin’ the ropes. Maybe he’ll be good someday.
Wide Receivers: These fellas are the ones catchin’ the ball way down the field. They gotta be fast and have good hands, like catchin’ chickens in the yard, only this chicken’s made of leather and flyin’ through the air. I saw one name, Pofele Ashlock, number 5. Sounds like a good ol’ country boy. He’s a wide receiver, number 6020 or somethin’, whatever that means. They got a bunch of others too, runnin’ around like chickens with their heads cut off, tryin’ to get open.
Tight Ends: Now, these guys are kinda like a mix of everything. They gotta block like the big fellas on the line, and sometimes they gotta catch the ball too. Heard of a Matthew Bailiff, number 46, plays tight end. Sounds like a big fella. Gotta be strong to do both jobs.
Offensive Line: These are the real workhorses, the big fellas up front. They gotta protect the quarterback and make holes for the running backs. Don’t know their names, but they’re big, I tell ya, big as barns. Gotta eat a lot of potatoes to get that big. They’re the unsung heroes, doin’ all the dirty work so the others can look good.
Defensive Line: These fellas are just as big, but their job is to stop the other team from runnin’ and throwin’ the ball. They gotta be mean and nasty, like a mama bear protectin’ her cubs. They’re the ones that get all the sacks, whatever those are.
Linebackers: These are the fellas in the middle, roamin’ around like wolves, lookin’ for someone to tackle. They gotta be fast and strong, and they gotta be smart too, gotta know where the ball’s goin’ before it even gets there. Lots of runnin’ for them boys, gotta be in good shape.
Defensive Backs: These guys are like the hawks, circlin’ in the sky, waitin’ to swoop down and intercept the ball. They gotta be quick and have good eyes, seein’ where the ball’s goin’ and gettin’ there first. They’re the last line of defense, gotta be good or else the other team scores.
Special Teams: Now, this is for when they kick the ball, punt it, or try to kick it through them yellow sticks. Got your kickers, punters, and the fellas that run down the field tryin’ to tackle the guy catchin’ the ball. Important stuff, even though it don’t happen all the time.
So, that’s the gist of it, the Hawaii Rainbow Warriors football team. They got a whole bunch of fellas playin’ different positions, all workin’ together tryin’ to win some games. Heard they’re startin’ up soon, the 2024 season. Hope they do good, those boys work hard. Win or lose, as long as they try their best, that’s all that matters. And nobody gets hurt too bad, Lord willin’.
