I got a call from my nephew the other day, he wanted me to make him an NFL blanket. He’s a huge fan of some team, I can’t remember which one, but that’s beside the point. I’m like, sure, I can do that, I’ve made blankets before, no big deal. But he specifically asked for it to be made out of fleece. Now, I’ve worked with fleece a few times, but it’s not my usual go-to material, so I had to do some digging.
First thing I did was hop online to check out what kind of NFL fleece material was available. I typed “NFL fleece material” into the search bar and scrolled through the results. There were tons of options, different teams, different colors, different patterns. I found a few that I thought my nephew might like and jotted down the links.

Shopping for Fabric
Next, I headed to my local fabric store. I wanted to see the material in person, feel the texture, and check the quality. I showed the store clerk the links I had saved and asked if they had anything similar. They pointed me to their fleece section, and I started browsing.
- I found a couple of options that were pretty close to what I had seen online.
- I compared the quality and price, and decided on a soft, thick fleece with the team logo.
- I bought enough fabric to make a decent-sized blanket, plus a little extra just in case.
Making the Blanket
Back home, I laid out the fabric on my work table. I measured and cut two large rectangles, making sure they were the same size. Then, I pinned the two pieces together, right sides facing each other.
I threaded my sewing machine with a matching thread and started sewing around the edges, leaving a small opening on one side. Once I was done, I turned the blanket right side out through the opening.
To finish it off, I hand-stitched the opening closed. I gave the blanket a good shake and admired my work. It turned out pretty good, if I do say so myself. I folded it up and packed it in a box, ready to be shipped to my nephew. I hope he likes it!
