Alright, so fantasy football season is creeping up, and you know what that means – time to lock in those team names. Being a Packers die-hard, I always try to come up with something Green Bay-themed. It’s become a bit of a ritual for me, actually.
My Initial Brainstorming Phase
First thing I usually do is just jot down current key players. Obvious, right? This year, Jordan Love is the big one on everyone’s mind. So, his name went to the top of my mental list. Then I think about other playmakers, guys like Christian Watson, Romeo Doubs, Aaron Jones, AJ Dillon. Just getting the raw material down.

I also think about classic Packers stuff. Lambeau Field, Cheeseheads, our colors, Super Bowl wins, legendary players from the past. Sometimes mixing the new with the old works pretty well.
Playing with Puns and Wordplay
This is where the fun usually starts for me. I take those player names and start messing around.
- With “Love,” it’s pretty easy to go for “Love Hurts,” “All You Need is Love,” or something like “Love Actually Wins.” I thought about “Show Me Some Love” too.
- For the receivers, I toyed with “Watson Your Mind?” or “Doubs Trouble.” Simple stuff, just trying to see if anything clicks.
- With the running backs, you could do “Jonesin’ for a TD” or “Dillon ‘Em Softly.”
I literally just grab a piece of paper, or open a note on my phone, and type out whatever goofy thing comes to mind. No filter at this stage. Some of them are truly terrible, but that’s part of the process, you know? You gotta get the bad ideas out to make room for the good ones.
Connecting to Packers Culture
Then I try to weave in some of that Packers identity. I thought about:
- Combining Love with Green Bay: “Love in the Titletown,” or “Green Bay Love Story.”
- Cheesehead references: “Love’s Big Cheese,” “Discount Doubs Check Your Cheese.” Okay, that last one is a bit of a stretch, but like I said, no filter.
- Lambeau mentions: “Love From Lambeau,” “Lambeau Leap of Faith.”
I also consider general football terms or phrases and see if I can Packer-fy them. Things like “King of the North” could become “Love, King of the North.”
Refining and Shortlisting
After I’ve got a decent list, maybe 10 to 20 names, I start to look at them a bit more critically. Which ones are actually clever? Which ones are easy to say or remember? Which ones just make me chuckle?
For example, I kinda liked “It’s a Love Thing” or “Love Will Tear Us Apart (the League).” “The Love Boat” is a classic too, easy to adapt. I also thought “Pack Attack is Back” has a nice ring to it, even if it’s more general.

I lean towards names that aren’t too complicated. You want something your league mates will get, or at least find amusing.
Making the Call (For Now)
So, this year, after going through all that, I’m leaning towards something simple but effective. I haven’t 100% decided, because sometimes a new idea pops up last minute. But “Love Actually Wins” is pretty high on my list, and “Lambeau Leapers” is a solid classic if I want something less player-specific.
That’s pretty much my process. It’s not rocket science, just a bit of brainstorming and seeing what sticks. It’s always a fun little pre-season activity to get me hyped for some Packers football and, of course, fantasy glory!
