Okay, so game day was rolling around again, and I really wanted some new gear to show my team spirit. I’d seen some NFL earrings in stores and online, but nothing quite hit the spot, or they were just a bit more than I wanted to spend for something I might only wear a few times a season. That got me thinking, why not just make my own?
Gathering the Bits and Pieces
First things first, I had to get my supplies sorted. It wasn’t a massive list, which was nice. I knew I’d need:

- NFL Charms: This was the main event, obviously. I hopped online and found some decent-looking charms for my team. Had to wait a few days for them to arrive, which felt like forever.
- Earring Hooks: Just the standard fishhook kind, nothing fancy. I had a pack of these already from a previous little project. Silver-colored, to match the charms I picked.
- Jump Rings: Those little metal circles that connect everything. Also had a stash of these. You always need jump rings for something.
- Pliers: My trusty needle-nose pliers and a pair of flat-nose ones. Essential for opening and closing those jump rings without mangling them too much.
Once the charms finally landed on my doorstep, I was ready to get started. I cleared off a bit of space on my kitchen table, put on some music, and laid everything out.
Putting It All Together
Alright, with all my bits and bobs in front of me, it was time to actually assemble these earrings. It’s not rocket science, but you do need a bit of patience, especially with those tiny jump rings.
First up, I grabbed a jump ring. Using my two pairs of pliers, one in each hand, I gently twisted the jump ring open. You don’t want to pull it apart sideways, or it’ll lose its shape. A little twist is all it takes.
Then, I slipped one of the NFL charms onto the open jump ring. Easy peasy. Next, I slid the loop of an earring hook onto that same jump ring. So now the charm and the hook were both hanging on this one little ring.
The slightly trickier part was closing the jump ring back up. Again, using both pliers, I twisted it back so the ends met flush. I wiggled it a bit to make sure it was closed tight – didn’t want my precious team charm falling off mid-cheer!
One down, one to go! I just repeated the exact same process for the second earring. Open jump ring, add charm, add hook, close jump ring. I did fumble one of the jump rings, it went flying off the table and I spent a good minute on my hands and knees looking for it. Classic.
The Final Result
And just like that, after maybe 15-20 minutes (including the great jump ring hunt), they were done! I held them up, and honestly, I was pretty chuffed. They looked just how I wanted them to. Simple, a clear show of team pride, and best of all, I made them myself.

I tried them on straight away. They weren’t too heavy, which is always a bonus. I gave my head a little shake, and they dangled nicely. Perfect!
It’s always satisfying making something with your own hands, even if it’s something small like a pair of earrings. Plus, now I’ve got a unique accessory for game days. Definitely worth the small effort involved.
