Alright, so I wanted to share what happened when I tried my hand at this whole ‘bears logo football’ project. It started simple enough, you know? I’m a big Bears fan, and I thought, “Hey, wouldn’t it be cool to have a football with the logo, maybe one I kinda customized myself?” Seemed like a fun weekend thing.
First off, getting a plain football that felt good, that wasn’t already covered in other stuff, was a bit of a mission. You’d think they’re everywhere, but nah. Found one eventually. Then came the big challenge: the logo. That iconic Bears ‘C’. Simple looking, but let me tell you, getting it right is a whole other ball game, literally.
The Grand Plan vs. Reality
My grand plan involved stencils. I figured, how hard can it be? Print the logo, cut it out, tape it on, paint. Easy peasy. Wrong. So, so wrong. My first attempt, the paint bled under the stencil. Looked like a bear sneezed orange and blue all over it. Not the sharp, professional look I was aiming for, that’s for sure.
I decided to try freehanding a bit after that disaster. Let’s just say my artistic skills are… questionable. The ‘C’ looked more like a weird crescent moon that had a rough night. My wife walked in, took one look, and just kinda smirked. That was encouraging.
Here’s a quick rundown of my struggles:
- Finding the exact right shades of navy and orange paint. You’d be surprised how many blues there are.
- Getting the paint to stick properly to the football’s surface without cracking when it dried.
- My hand shaking like I’d had ten cups of coffee while trying to get those curves smooth.
- Cleaning up the paint. Everywhere. On my hands, the table, pretty sure the dog got some on his tail.
What I Reckon Now
After a couple of days of this, covered in paint and frustration, I had a bit of a moment. You see all that official team gear, right? Everything looking perfect. And you just kinda take it for granted. But man, after trying to make just one decent logo on one football, I get it. There’s a whole process, probably machines and people who actually know what they’re doing. It ain’t just slapping some paint on.
It makes you appreciate the stuff you see in stores a bit more, even if you still think it’s a bit pricey. Someone, somewhere, wrestled with getting that logo just right, probably on a much bigger scale than my messy garage setup.
So, the final product? Well, let’s just say it’s got character. It’s definitely a football, and it definitely has something resembling the Bears colors and a ‘C’ on it. It’s not gonna win any design awards. But, you know what? Every time I look at it, I remember the effort. And it’s my kind of lopsided, imperfect Bears football. Still haven’t quite decided if I’ll display it proudly or hide it when guests come over. We’ll see how the season goes.
