Hitting the Gym for the Boxing Contest Prep
Alright, so I got down to the gym today, serious business for this upcoming boxing contest. First thing, gotta get ready. Spent a good while wrapping my hands nice and tight. Can’t mess around with that, learned that lesson the hard way before.
Then, the warm-up. Jumped rope for what felt like forever, just getting the rhythm, getting loose. Followed that up with some shadow boxing. Really worked on moving my head, keeping my feet moving. Coach keeps saying, “Don’t be a static target!” So, yeah, lots of bobbing and weaving, picturing an opponent right there.

Moved onto the heavy bag next. Man, I just let loose on that thing. Focused on putting combos together – jab, cross, hook, then move. Tried to keep the power consistent, not just throw wild shots. My shoulders were burning pretty good after a few rounds of that. It’s tough work, but feels good, you know? Like you’re really building something.
Drills and Sparring Time
After the bag, we did some partner drills. Mostly defensive stuff. Practiced slipping jabs, blocking hooks. My partner was sharp today, kept me honest. You really gotta stay switched on, can’t be daydreaming in there. One slip-up and you eat leather, even in practice.
We finished off with a few rounds of light sparring. Not trying to knock each other out, just applying the drills, working on timing and distance. Moved around the ring, tried out some of the footwork patterns I was practicing earlier. Landed some decent shots, took a few too. It’s all part of the game, helps you see where the holes are. You feel way more alive when you’re actually trading punches, even light ones.
Wrapped up the session with some conditioning – push-ups, sit-ups, the usual grind. Then a good stretch. Gotta cool down properly. Felt absolutely wiped by the end, drenched in sweat. But it’s that good kind of tired. Means you put the work in. Still loads to do before the actual contest, but today felt productive. Just gotta keep showing up and putting in the hours.
