Alright, so I decided to give this “Dominion Boxing” thing a shot. I’d heard some buzz about it, and figured, why not? I’m always up for trying something new, especially if it involves getting a bit of a workout.
First, I looked up what Dominion Boxing actually is. Turns out, it’s not just flailing around like a crazy person. There’s some actual strategy involved, kinda like a card game, but with, you know, punching.
Getting Started
I found a local gym that offered classes. It was a bit intimidating walking in, I gotta admit. Everyone seemed to know what they were doing, and I felt like a total newbie. But, the instructor was cool. He showed me the basics – how to stand, how to throw a jab, a cross, that kinda stuff.
- Stance: Feet shoulder-width apart, one foot slightly in front of the other. Felt weird at first, but it makes sense for balance.
- Jab: Quick punch with your lead hand. This is your setup punch.
- Cross: Punch with your rear hand. More power in this one.
We spent a good chunk of time just practicing those basic punches. Over and over. It’s all about muscle memory, the instructor said. My arms started to feel it pretty quick, let me tell you!
Sparring Drills
Then came the fun part – well, fun and slightly terrifying. We did some light sparring drills. No actual hitting each other in the face, thankfully. It was more about practicing combinations and footwork.
I tried to remember everything the instructor had shown me. Jab, cross, move, block. It’s harder than it looks! I definitely got tagged a few times, but hey, that’s part of learning, right?
Feeling the Burn
By the end of the class, I was exhausted. Seriously, I was sweating buckets. But it was a good kind of exhausted. The kind where you feel like you actually did something.
I realized Dominion Boxing is a lot more than just punching. It is a good method to exercise. I learned some basic boxing moves, and I even managed to hold my own during the sparring drills (sort of). I think I’ll be back for another class. Maybe I’ll even get good at it eventually!
