Okay, so today I decided to mess around with this “Ashton Lewis Golf” thing. I’d heard about it from some buddies, and honestly, it sounded kinda complicated, but I figured, why not give it a shot?
Getting Started
First, I tried to figure out what it even was. Turns out, it’s a scoring system, or some kind of way to handicap golf matches when you’ve got teams with different skill levels. Sounds useful, right? I’m always getting my butt kicked by guys who play way more than I do.

I found some stuff online, but it was all a bit confusing. Lots of formulas and charts. I’m more of a “learn by doing” kind of guy, so I decided to just jump in and try to make sense of it as I went.
The Experiment
I grabbed a scorecard from my last round (which was, uh, not pretty). I pretended I was playing a match against my buddy, Mark, who’s way better than me. I basically just winged it, trying to apply the Ashton Lewis stuff based on what I’d skimmed.
- First few holes: Total disaster. I was probably doing it completely wrong. Numbers were all over the place.
- Middle of the round: Started to get a little bit of a feel for it. Still mostly guessing, but at least I felt like I was making some kind of progress.
- End of the round: Okay, maybe I started to see how it could work. The scores were… well, they were closer than they would have been normally, that’s for sure.
My Takeaway (For Now)
Honestly, I’m still not 100% sure I did it right. I definitely need to read up on it some more. But it did seem like it could potentially level the playing field a bit. I could see this being useful for those casual matches where you’ve got a big gap in skill levels.
I’m gonna try it out for real next time I play with Mark. We’ll see if it actually makes a difference, or if I just made things even more confusing. I’ll keep you posted!
