Okay, so today I wanted to try something new with my boxing training, and I heard about this thing called “RTD.” I’m no expert, but I like to mix things up, so I thought, “Why not?”
What I Did First
First, I did my usual warm-up. You know, some jumping jacks, a little bit of shadow boxing, just to get the blood flowing. I didn’t want to jump into anything too crazy without getting my body ready first.

Getting into the “RTD” Thing
So, I started with some basic drills. I worked the jab, practiced my footwork – moving in and out, circling my imaginary opponent. The idea, as far as I could tell, was to really focus on my defense. Keeping my guard up, reacting quickly, and trying not to get “hit.” It was like playing a game of tag, but with punches.
- I spent some time on the heavy bag, focusing on throwing combinations and then immediately getting back into my defensive stance.
- Then, I did some sparring with my training partner. He’s way better than me, which is good, because it really forced me to work on my defense.
- We did some drills where he’d throw specific punches, and I had to react and block or slip * was pretty tiring!
My “Aha!” Moment
The big thing I realized was that it’s not just about blocking punches. It’s about seeing them coming. It is a mind game. It’s about anticipating what your opponent is going to do and reacting before they even do it. That’s the part that I really started to get a feel for today. It’s like, you start to see the patterns, the little tells, the way they shift their weight before they throw a punch.
Wrapping It Up
I finished up with some more shadow boxing, trying to put everything I’d learned into practice. I focused on staying light on my feet, keeping my guard up, and visualizing my opponent’s attacks. It was a good workout, and I definitely felt like I learned something new. I’m still working the basic skill on my defence.
I’ll keep working on this “RTD” thing and see how it goes. Maybe next time, I’ll focus even more on counter-punching. That’s the next step, right? Anyway, that was my boxing adventure for today. Just keep practice!
