Okay, so I saw this “cup cutter golf” thing online and figured, why not give it a shot? I mean, who doesn’t love a slightly ridiculous golfing challenge?
First things first, I grabbed my putter – the old reliable one I’ve had for years. Then, the crucial part: the cup cutter. Luckily, I had a spare one.

If you want try this you need a hole.
I headed out to my backyard. We’ve got a bit of a slope, which I figured would make things interesting, maybe even too interesting.
The Setup
- Find a slightly sloped.
- Take The cup cutter.
- Practice a few swings.
I started by trying to get a feel for it. I mean, hitting a ball that’s, you know, got a giant circle around it is a little different than a regular putt. My first few attempts? Let’s just say they weren’t exactly going straight. Or far. Or anywhere near where I wanted them to go.
I kept at it, though. I tried adjusting my grip, my stance, everything. Slowly, I started to get a bit more consistent. The ball was still wobbling like crazy, but at least it was wobbling in a generally forward direction.
The “Success”(It’s my own feeling)
After what felt like a million tries (okay, maybe more like 20), I actually managed to get a few that rolled reasonably well. Not exactly pro-level, but hey, I wasn’t aiming for the PGA tour. I was just trying not to embarrass myself completely.
I did find that a slightly softer touch seemed to work better. Too much power, and the ball would just go haywire. It’s all about finesse, apparently. Or maybe just dumb luck. I’m still not entirely sure.

So, would I recommend cup cutter golf? Sure, why not! It’s a fun, goofy little challenge. Just don’t expect to be sinking any hole-in-ones. And maybe practice somewhere where you won’t lose too many balls. Trust me on that one.
