Okay, so I’ve been following the Miami Hurricanes for years, and the 2024 NFL Draft was something I was really looking forward to. I mean, we’ve had some amazing players come through the program, and I always get excited to see where they end up at the next level. So, here’s how I went about tracking the draft and what I found out.
Getting Ready for Draft Day
First off, I made sure I was totally prepped for the draft. I’m talking snacks, drinks, and my lucky Canes jersey. I blocked out the whole weekend on my calendar because, you know, the draft takes a while. I also jotted down the names of the players I thought had a good shot at getting drafted. I had a feeling about Kamren Kinchens and Leonard Taylor III. You just never know with the draft, so I started reading up on all the mock drafts.

Following the Action Live
When the draft started, I was glued to the TV. I had my laptop open too, tracking every pick on a few different websites. I was refreshing those pages like crazy. I also had the NFL app on my phone, just in case. I wanted to make sure I didn’t miss a single thing. The first round came and went, and no Canes were picked! I was starting to sweat a little, not gonna lie.
The Canes Start Getting Picked
Then, on Day 2, it finally happened. Kamren Kinchens was the first Cane off the board! I was so pumped! It was a bit of a nail-biter waiting for his name to be called. I knew he was good, but you just never know how things will shake out. Seeing him get picked was awesome.
Leonard Taylor III didn’t end up getting drafted, which was a shocker, but he signed as an undrafted free agent, so he still has a shot at his NFL dream. I was bummed for him, but that’s how it goes sometimes.
And then we had a few more guys get picked later on: James Williams, Matt Lee and Javion Cohen. I followed each of them throughout their college careers, so it felt good to see their hard work pay off. It’s always cool to see guys you’ve been watching for years finally make it to the NFL.
Breaking It All Down
After the draft, I spent some time digging into where each player ended up. I looked at the teams that drafted them, checked out their rosters, and tried to figure out how our guys might fit in. For example, Kinchens going to the Rams seems like a great fit. They need help in the secondary, and he’s a ball hawk.
- Kamren Kinchens: I think he’s gonna be a stud. Seriously, this guy is a playmaker.
- James Williams: I’m interested to see how he develops. He’s got the size and athleticism to be a good pro.
- Matt Lee: Solid center, could definitely see him starting in a year or two.
- Javion Cohen: Another interior lineman, which is always a need in the NFL.
Wrapping Up
Overall, it was a pretty good draft for the Canes. We didn’t have any first-rounders, but seeing five guys get picked and another one sign as a free agent is nothing to sneeze at. I’m excited to see how these guys do in the NFL. I’ll be following their careers closely, that’s for sure. It’s always a proud moment to see a Hurricane make it to the league, and I can’t wait to see what the future holds for these guys.
