So, I’ve been messing around with this golf thing, specifically with Kris Spence Golf. Let me tell you, it’s been quite a ride.
It all started when I stumbled upon some info about this Kris Spence guy. Turns out, he’s a big shot in golf course design. I got curious and dug a bit deeper. Found out his daughter, Kristin, runs the business side of things from their place in Oak Ridge. Joined the company in 2020, handling all the admin stuff. Good for her!

Then, I saw that Spence Golf Design started working on this new golf course called Quixote Club in Sumter, SC. Apparently, it was a total makeover of the old Sunset Country Club. They broke ground in January 2020. Pretty cool, right? A complete transformation!

Diving Deeper
I got really into it and learned that Kris Spence is all about restoring golf courses to their original glory. He puts a ton of effort into making sure he doesn’t mess with the original design too much. Sounds like a real purist, which I respect.
Honestly, I was just browsing around, but then I found their Instagram profile, @spence_golf_design. They’ve got a decent following – over 1,400 followers and some interesting posts. 196 posts about creating “golf courses with distinction”. That’s their thing, I guess.
So, I spent a few days just reading everything I could find. It was interesting. They’ve been involved in some big projects. They work with some other big names, like this Jack Nicklaus II guy, who’s involved in the Quixote Club project too.
And that’s pretty much where I’m at now. Just soaking it all in. I’m no expert, but it’s cool to see how these golf courses get made and remade. It’s like a whole world I never knew existed. Figured I’d share my little journey of discovery with you all. You never know what you’ll find when you start poking around on the internet!
It is amazing about Kris’s story! I will continue to follow them.
