So, the other day, I was thinking about diving into this topic of “gay women tennis players”. It’s not something you hear about every day, but I figured, why not? I mean, I see a lot of stuff about tennis players in general, but not so much about their personal lives, especially when it comes to who they love. So, I started digging.
First, I just did a simple search online. Didn’t find a whole lot at first, mostly just general info about tennis players. Then, I found this one page that was kind of like a category page. It said this category was a “non-diffusing subcategory” of tennis players. It meant that the tennis players in this category can be found in the parent category also. Whatever that meant. But it got me thinking that maybe there’s more to this than meets the eye.

Then I stumbled on some articles talking about how a few players over the years have been, like, pioneers for the LGBTQ community in tennis. They mentioned a couple of big names like Billie Jean King and Martina Navratilova. I’ve heard those names before, they’re pretty famous. But the articles made it sound like there haven’t been a ton of openly gay women in tennis, which is kinda surprising, right?
I also found something about a Brazilian tennis player, Joao Lucas Reis. Apparently, he’s ranked 401st in the world and 11th in Brazil. His name stood out to me among those of female tennis players. It got me wondering about the male side of things. Not exactly what I was looking for, but still, it added another layer to the whole picture.
After looking into all that stuff I realized that there are a lot of players out there, but not many are super open about being gay. It makes me think there’s probably a bunch of reasons why. Maybe they don’t want it to be a big deal, or maybe they’re worried about how people will react. It’s a tough one. Because, on one hand, you want to respect people’s privacy, but on the other hand, it’s kind of cool to see people being themselves, you know?
Anyways, that’s where I’m at with it all. I feel like I’ve only scratched the surface, and there’s probably a lot more to learn. I’ll keep poking around and see what else I can find. It’s definitely an interesting topic, and I’m curious to see where it leads me.
I’ll keep you guys posted if I dig up anything really juicy.
