Okay, so, yesterday I stumbled upon this mini crossword puzzle in the New York Times. Usually, these things are a breeze, you know, done in a few minutes while I’m having my morning coffee. But this time, there was this one clue that stumped me: “Washington N.B.A. team.”
Now, I’m not a huge sports fanatic, but I thought I knew a bit about the major teams. Turns out, I didn’t know enough! I stared at those blank squares for way longer than I’d like to admit. Tried a few combinations in my head, but nothing seemed to fit, and let me tell you, it was frustrating.

So, what did I do?
- First, I tried to solve the surrounding clues, hoping they would give me some letters to work with. That helped a little, but not enough to crack the main one.
- Next, I asked my friend who’s a total sports nut. He just laughed and said it was obvious, but refused to give me the answer right away. Thanks for nothing.
- After my friend’s tease, I moved to the next step, I admit I hit up the internet. Typed in the clue, and boom, there were tons of these crossword solver sites. Felt a little like cheating, but I was desperate.
Finally Gave Up
Turns out, all I needed was a quick search. Several sites had the answer right there. And you know what the answer was? “WIZARDS”! I felt so dumb for not getting it myself, but hey, at least I learned something new. And I finished the puzzle. It’s a small victory but I get it done!
It’s funny how these little puzzles can be so satisfying to complete, even if you need a little help sometimes. Also, I think, I need to brush up on my sports knowledge a bit more, just in case I run into another clue like that.
